Air-Sea Gas Exchange Rates: Introduction and Synthesis

TLDR
In this article, the basic equations governing air-sea gas exchange are given, then a review of some models proposed to describe the gas transfer process is given, and experimental approaches through both laboratory (principally using wind/water tunnels) and field measurements are summarized.
Abstract
In this chapter we attempt to present a brief introduction to the subject of air-sea gas exchange First the basic equations governing such exchange are given, then a review of some models proposed to describe the gas transfer process Following this, experimental approaches through both laboratory (principally using wind/water tunnels) and field measurements are summarised Finally, we present what seems to us to be the best current synthesis of the wind tunnel and field results for the prediction of gas exchange rates across the sea surface

An improved parameterisation of ozone dry deposition to the ocean and its impact in a global climate–chemistry model

TL;DR: In this paper, a comparison of the modelled deposition velocity dependencies on sea surface temperature (SST) and wind speed with recently reported cruise-based observations is made, showing that the two-layer scheme with a surface reactive layer thickness specification of 2.5µm is able to simulate the field measurements most closely with respect to absolute values as well as SST and windspeed dependence.

Empirical temperature‐based estimates of variability in the oceanic uptake of CO2 over the past 2 decades

TL;DR: In this paper, the year-to-year variability of net global air-sea CO2 fluxes from observed interannual changes in wind speed and estimated differences in CO2 partial pressure between surface seawater (pCO2SW) and the overlying atmosphere is estimated from changes in sea surface temperature via seasonal algorithms that relate pCO2 SW to sea surface temperatures.

The CO2 system in rivers of the Australian Victorian Alps: CO2 evasion in relation to system metabolism and rock weathering on multi-annual time scales

TL;DR: In this article, the patterns of dissolved inorganic C (DIC) and aqueous CO2 in rivers and estuaries sampled during summer and winter in the Australian Victorian Alps were examined.

A Lagrangian study of surface pCO2 dynamics in the eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean

TL;DR: In this article, the authors characterized pCO2 variability on hourly to weekly timescales during the 14-day GasEx-2001 Lagrangian drifter experiment in the eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean.

Dissolved methane distributions, sources, and sinks in the western Bransfield Strait, Antarctica

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured the upper water column (0-200 m) of western Bransfield Strait and southwestern Drake Passage on four cruises between December 1986 and March 1987 during the Research on Antarctic Coastal Ecosystem Rates (RACER) experiment.

Gas exchange rates between air and sea

TL;DR: In this article, the average film thickness for the world ocean based on the distribution of natural radiocarbon, bomb-produced radioccarbon, and radon are in good agreement, and Radon data from the BOMEX area and from station PAPA lend support to Kanwisher's suggestion that gas exchange rates should vary in proportion to the square of the wind velocity.

Vollständige Darstellung der turbulenten Geschwindigkeitsverteilung in glatten Leitungen

TL;DR: From experimental investigations of turbulent exchange of momentum a formula is derived for the velocity of turbulent flow in tubes and pipes in this paper, which gives a complete representation of the velocity distribution, i. e. it holds good close to the wall as well as in the core of the flow.
