Air-Sea Gas Exchange Rates: Introduction and Synthesis

TLDR
In this article, the basic equations governing air-sea gas exchange are given, then a review of some models proposed to describe the gas transfer process is given, and experimental approaches through both laboratory (principally using wind/water tunnels) and field measurements are summarized.
Abstract
In this chapter we attempt to present a brief introduction to the subject of air-sea gas exchange First the basic equations governing such exchange are given, then a review of some models proposed to describe the gas transfer process Following this, experimental approaches through both laboratory (principally using wind/water tunnels) and field measurements are summarised Finally, we present what seems to us to be the best current synthesis of the wind tunnel and field results for the prediction of gas exchange rates across the sea surface

Carbonyl sulfide in two estuaries and shelf waters of the western North Atlantic Ocean

TL;DR: In this paper, the water column and sediment porewaters of two estuaries in the eastern United States, and in surface waters of the western North Atlantic shelf during summer 1990 were determined in order to quantify the role that the coastal environment may play in the planet's radiation balance.

Long‐term variability of the air‐sea CO2 exchange coefficient: Consequences for the CO2 fluxes in the equatorial Pacific Ocean

TL;DR: In this paper, the global distribution of the air-sea CO2 exchange coefficient from remotely sensed Geosat and special sensor microwave imager wind speeds from April 1985 to December 1992 was deduced from the remotely sensed geosat data.

Methane fluxes to the atmosphere from deepwater hydrocarbon seeps in the northern Gulf of Mexico

TL;DR: In this article, three deepwater hydrocarbon seep sites in the northern Gulf of Mexico were investigated during the Remote Sensing and Sea-Truth Measurements of Methane Flux to the Atmosphere (HYFLUX) study in July 2009.

Simultaneous use of relaxed eddy accumulation and gradient flux techniques for the measurement of sea-to-air exchange of dimethyl sulphide

TL;DR: The sea-to-air flux of the biogenic volatile sulphur compound dimethyl sulphide was assessed with the relaxed eddy accumulation (REA) and the gradient flux (GF) techniques from a stationary platform in the coastal Atlantic Ocean as mentioned in this paper.

Carbon disulfide in the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans

TL;DR: Carbon disulfide (CS2) was determined in surface waters of the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans as discussed by the authors, and the mean concentrations (and ranges) of CS2 in open ocean waters were 13.4 (7.8-26.1) pM S (picomol sulfur per liter).

Gas exchange rates between air and sea

TL;DR: In this article, the average film thickness for the world ocean based on the distribution of natural radiocarbon, bomb-produced radioccarbon, and radon are in good agreement, and Radon data from the BOMEX area and from station PAPA lend support to Kanwisher's suggestion that gas exchange rates should vary in proportion to the square of the wind velocity.

Vollständige Darstellung der turbulenten Geschwindigkeitsverteilung in glatten Leitungen

TL;DR: From experimental investigations of turbulent exchange of momentum a formula is derived for the velocity of turbulent flow in tubes and pipes in this paper, which gives a complete representation of the velocity distribution, i. e. it holds good close to the wall as well as in the core of the flow.
