TL;DR: Thirty-five herbaceous dicotyledonous perennial plant species, with permanent root systems, from 16 families, were examined for the presence of growth rings in the secondary root xylem, finding most showed ring zonations in the roots.

TL;DR: The study of dispersed angiosperm cuticles originated prior to World War II and has focused on the origin and paleoecology of coal as discussed by the authors, with a high point during the 1950s and 1960s with the study of Tertiary lignites in central Europe, then subsided in central European as workers from other regions expanded the technique to other time-periods and geographic regions.

Dicotyledonous woods from the Upper Cretaceous of southern Illinois

TL;DR: Five species of fossil dicotyledonous wood are described from an Upper Cretaceous of Southern Illinoi that lack specialized wood anatomical characters, and a compilation of vessel element lengths indicates that short vessel elements were less frequent in the Cret Jurassic than in extant dicotsyllabenous trees.

Familial relationships of rhabdodendron (rhabdodendraceae) : plastid rbcl sequences indicate a caryophyllid placement

TL;DR: Analysis of rbcL sequence data indicates a placement within Caryophyllidae sensu Chase, Soltis, Olmstead et al. 1993, but without a particularly close relationship to any of the other families, and support the familial rank Rhabdodendraceae and place it in Caryophylla without reference to a particular order.
