Journal ArticleDOI
Stomatal patterns in embryophytes: their evolution, ontogeny and interpretation
TL;DR: A new ontogenetic system of classification is introduced that makes primary subdivision on the basis of the mode of division of the guard mother cell with respect to the wall which cuts it from the meristemoid: diameristic, at right angles; parameristic, parallel to; and anomomeristic, without special orientation to the preceding wall.
Journal ArticleDOI

Raphide Crystal Cell Development in Leaves of Psychotria Punctata (Rubiaceae)
Harry T. Horner,R. E. Whitmoyer +1 more
TL;DR: The distribution and development of raphide crystal cells in nodulated leaves of Psychotria punctata were studied by light and electron microscopy and these results are compared with other recent investigations dealing with calcium oxalate crystals in higher plants.

Onagraceae as a model of plant evolution
TL;DR: Onagraceae are a well-defined family of flowering plants, consisting of seven tribes, 16 genera, and approximately 652 species of worldwide distribution, and are clearly the best-known plant family of their size.
Journal ArticleDOI
Flower Structure, Development, and Systematics in Passifloraceae and in Abatia (Flacourtiaceae)
TL;DR: Despite the presence of an extrastaminal corona in the genus, several other lines of evidence, including flower morphology and phytochemistry, indicate that Abatia is not a member of Passifloraceae and should be included in the Flacourtiaceae.
