Combining effect size estimates in meta-analysis with repeated measures and independent-groups designs.

TLDR
In this paper, a method for combining results across independent-groups and repeated measures designs is described, and the conditions under which such an analysis is appropriate are discussed, and a meta-analysis procedure using design-specific estimates of sampling variance is described.
Abstract
When a meta-analysis on results from experimental studies is conducted, differences in the study design must be taken into consideration. A method for combining results across independent-groups and repeated measures designs is described, and the conditions under which such an analysis is appropriate are discussed. Combining results across designs requires that (a) all effect sizes be transformed into a common metric, (b) effect sizes from each design estimate the same treatment effect, and (c) meta-analysis procedures use design-specific estimates of sampling variance to reflect the precision of the effect size estimates.

Effectiveness of Internet-based cognitive-behavior therapy for social anxiety disorder in clinical psychiatry.

TL;DR: It is suggested that ICBT for social anxiety disorder is effective when delivered within the context of a unit specialized in Internet-based psychiatric care and may be considered as a treatment alternative for implementation within the mental health care system.

Working memory training in old age: an examination of transfer and maintenance effects.

TL;DR: The results of this study suggest that the present WM training program produces benefits maintained over time even in old-old adults, and confirm that there is still room for plasticity in the basic mechanisms of cognition in advance old age.

The relationship between symbolic play and language acquisition: A meta-analytic review

TL;DR: This paper conducted a three-level meta-analysis of past studies that have investigated the relationship between symbolic play and language acquisition, finding a significant small-to-medium association between the two domains.

Cocaine administration dose-dependently increases sexual desire and decreases condom use likelihood: The role of delay and probability discounting in connecting cocaine with HIV.

TL;DR: This is the first study showing that cocaine administration increases sexual desire, and the importance of studying clinically relevant outcomes when examining drug effects on behavioral processes is highlighted.

Alcohol interventions for mandated college students: A meta-analytic review.

TL;DR: In this paper, a meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy of these "mandated interventions" to prevent future alcohol misuse and found that mandated students reported significantly less drinking relative to controls (between groups contrasts), d+ ranged from 0.13-0.20 for quantity and intoxication outcomes.
