Journal ArticleDOI
Structural dependence of in vitro cytotoxicity, oxidative stress and uptake mechanisms of poly(propylene imine) dendritic nanoparticles.
TL;DR: The results are consistent with an alternative uptake mechanism of physical diffusion across the semipermeable cell membrane for the lower generation dendrimers and are discussed in terms of their implications for predictive models for nanotoxicology and design strategies for nanomedical applications.

Enhanced cytocompatibility and functional group content of poly(L-lysine) dendrimers by grafting with poly(oxazolines)
Richard M. England,Jennifer I. Hare,Paul D. Kemmitt,Kevin Treacher,Michael J. Waring,Simon T. Barry,Cameron Alexander,Marianne Ashford +7 more
TL;DR: Modifying the POZ to have pendant carboxyl groups led to a novel modified dendrimer with significantly more sites for conjugation and a sixfold increase in the loading of coumarin (the authors' model compound) when compared to a non-functional POZ equivalent.

Electrochemically driven transfer of carboxyl-terminated PAMAM dendrimers at the water/dichloroethane interface
TL;DR: In this paper, the transfer of PAMAM dendrimers bearing carboxylic acid peripheral groups between two immiscible liquids was studied by means of the three phase junction system.

A New Concept for Macromolecular Therapeutics in Cancer Chemotherapy: Mechanism of Tumoritropic Accumulation of Proteins and the Antitumor Agent Smancs
Yasuhiro Matsumura,Hiroshi Maeda +1 more
TL;DR: It is speculated that the tumoritropic accumulation of smancs and other proteins resulted because of the hypervasculature, an enhanced permeability to even macromolecules, and little recovery through either blood vessels or lymphatic vessels in tumors of tumor-bearing mice.

A new class of polymers: Starburst-dendritic macromolecules
Donald A. Tomalia,H. Baker,James R Dewald,Michael B. Hall,G. Kallos,Steven J. Martin,J. Roeck,J. Ryder,Patrick B. Smith +8 more
TL;DR: Starburst polymers as mentioned in this paper are a class of topological macromolecules which are derived from classical monomers/oligomers by their extraordinary symmetry, high branching and maximized terminal functionality density.
Journal ArticleDOI
The dawning era of polymer therapeutics
TL;DR: The successful clinical application of polymer–protein conjugates, and promising clinical results arising from trials with polymer–anticancer-drug conjugate, bode well for the future design and development of the ever more sophisticated bio-nanotechnologies that are needed to realize the full potential of the post-genomic age.

Starburst Dendrimers: Molecular-Level Control of Size, Shape, Surface Chemistry, Topology, and Flexibility from Atoms to Macroscopic Matter
TL;DR: Starburst dendrimers are three-dimensional, highly ordered oligomeric and polymeric compounds formed by reiterative reaction sequences starting from smaller molecules—“initiator cores” such as ammonia or pentaerythritol.
