Electron tomography and holography in materials science
TLDR
An overview of the techniques of electron tomography and electron holography is presented and their capabilities with the aid of case studies that span materials science and the interface between the physical sciences and the life sciences are demonstrated.Abstract:
The rapid development of electron tomography, in particular the introduction of novel tomographic imaging modes, has led to the visualization and analysis of three-dimensional structural and chemical information from materials at the nanometre level. In addition, the phase information revealed in electron holograms allows electrostatic and magnetic potentials to be mapped quantitatively with high spatial resolution and, when combined with tomography, in three dimensions. Here we present an overview of the techniques of electron tomography and electron holography and demonstrate their capabilities with the aid of case studies that span materials science and the interface between the physical sciences and the life sciences.read more

Atomic resolution electron tomography
TL;DR: An overview of the latest progress in the field of atomic-resolution electron tomography can be found in this article, where different approaches have recently pushed the resolution to the atomic level, which is a prerequisite to understand the specific relationship between the atomic structure and physicochemical properties of (nano) materials.

Correlation between the microstructure and magnetic configuration in coarse-grain inhibited hot-deformed NdFeB magnets
TL;DR: In this paper, the role of WC dopants in the kinetics of stress-induced deformation system was investigated and it was shown that reinforced stress caused by WC nanoparticles effectively suppresses the size of Nd2Fe14B grains and induces their anisotropic growth.

Impact of the synthesis route of supported copper catalysts on the performance in the methanol synthesis reaction
Roy van den Berg,Jovana Zečević,Jens Sehested,Stig Helveg,Petra E. de Jongh,Krijn P. de Jong +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, two Cu/SiO2 methanol synthesis catalysts were synthesized, one via precipitation and one via impregnation, and electron tomography revealed a plate-like silica structure with copper particles partially entrapped, whereas for the impregnated catalyst the copper particles were located in the pores between the primary particles of a silica gel.

Representation of a Function by Its Line Integrals, with Some Radiological Applications
TL;DR: In this paper, a method for finding a real function in a finite region of a plane given its line integrals along all straight lines intersecting the region was given, and the solution found is applicable to three problems of interest for precise radiology and radiotherapy: (1) the determination of a variable x-ray absorption coefficient in two dimensions, (2) the distribution of positron annihilations when there is an inhomogeneous distribution of the positron emitter in matter, and (3) a variable density of matter with constant chemical composition, using the energy loss
