Dabigatran, rivaroxaban and apixaban vs. high TTR warfarin in atrial fibrillation

TL;DR: This study showed no difference between apixaban, dabigatran, or rivaroxaban compared to high TTR warfarin treatment regarding stroke prevention, however, fewer bleeding events were seen for apixban and dabig atran, but not for rivroxaban.
Journal ArticleDOI

Role of Oxidative Stress in the Genesis of Ventricular Arrhythmias

TL;DR: It is concluded that pharmacological approaches targeting multiple mechanisms besides oxidative stress might be more effective in the treatment of ventricular arrhythmias than current antiarrhythmic therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI

The impact of CD4+CD28null T-lymphocytes on atrial fibrillation and mortality in patients with chronic heart failure

TL;DR: It was found that the fraction of CD4+CD28null cells proved to be predictive on outcome in CHF-patients presenting with AF, which might indicate a potential role in the pathogenesis of AF which needs to be confirmed in future studies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phrenic nerve injury in atrial fibrillation ablation using balloon catheters: Incidence, characteristics, and clinical recovery course.

TL;DR: This work aimed to investigate the incidence, characteristics, and clinical recovery course in patients with PNP who underwent CBA or LBA who underwent balloon ablation techniques.
Journal ArticleDOI

Efficacy and safety of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants compared with warfarin in patients with atrial fibrillation.

TL;DR: In this large non-selected anticoagulation naïve Swedish atrial fibrillation cohort, the risks for all-cause stroke or systemic embolism were similar with NOACs and warfarin, but noACs were associated with significantly lower risks of all- cause mortality, major bleeding and intracranial haemorrhage but higher risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.

2013 ESH/ESC Guidelines for the management of arterial hypertension: The Task Force for the management of arterial hypertension of the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) and of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC).

Giuseppe Mancia, +89 more
TL;DR: In this article, a randomized controlled trial of Aliskiren in the Prevention of Major Cardiovascular Events in Elderly people was presented. But the authors did not discuss the effect of the combination therapy in patients living with systolic hypertension.
Journal ArticleDOI

Classification of subtype of acute ischemic stroke. Definitions for use in a multicenter clinical trial. TOAST. Trial of Org 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment

TL;DR: The TOAST stroke subtype classification system is easy to use and has good interobserver agreement and should allow investigators to report responses to treatment among important subgroups of patients with ischemic stroke.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spontaneous Initiation of Atrial Fibrillation by Ectopic Beats Originating in the Pulmonary Veins

TL;DR: The pulmonary veins are an important source of ectopic beats, initiating frequent paroxysms of atrial fibrillation and these foci respond to treatment with radio-frequency ablation.
