Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of pacing method on risk of sudden death after atrioventricular node ablation and pacemaker implantation in patients with atrial fibrillation.

TL;DR: Sudden death was significantly decreased in the study cohort compared to controls, suggesting a faster lower pacing rate immediately after AVN ablation with a gradual decrease is a plausible mechanism for the improved clinical outcome.

TRial of an Educational intervention on patients' knowledge of Atrial fibrillation and anticoagulant therapy, INR control, and outcome of Treatment with warfarin (TREAT)

TL;DR: A randomised controlled trial of an intensive educational intervention containing standardised information about the risks and benefits associated with OAC therapy, lifestyle interactions and the importance of monitoring and control of their International Normalised Ratio (INR) with AF patients receiving warfarin.
Journal ArticleDOI

Obstructive sleep apnoea-hypopnoea and arrhythmias: new updates.

TL;DR: Arrhythmias, especially of ventricular origin, are frequent in OSAH, and atrial fibrillation, resistance against antiarrhythmic drugs and recurrences after surgical procedures are strongly related to OSAh.
Journal ArticleDOI

An integrated chronic care program for patients with atrial fibrillation: Study protocol and methodology for an ongoing prospective randomised controlled trial

TL;DR: It is hypothesised that the ICCP may contribute towards closing the gap between guideline recommendations and current practice in the management of atrial fibrillation and may lead to better patient outcomes including improved quality of life and patient satisfaction in such patients.
Journal ArticleDOI

Early surgical intervention or watchful waiting for the management of asymptomatic mitral regurgitation: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that a strategy of early surgery may improve survival and increase the likelihood of mitral valve repair compared with watchful waiting and may also benefit patients when instituted prior to the development of class II triggers.
