Journal ArticleDOI

Calcium channel blockers improve exercise capacity and reduce N-terminal Pro-B-type natriuretic peptide levels compared with beta-blockers in patients with permanent atrial fibrillation

TL;DR: Rate-reducing treatment with diltiazem or verapamil preserved exercise capacity and reduced levels of NT-proBNP compared with baseline, whereas treatment with metoprolol or carvedilol reduced the exercise capacity
Journal ArticleDOI

Predictive factors of sustained sinus rhythm and recurrent atrial fibrillation after a radiofrequency modified Maze procedure

TL;DR: In this group of elderly patients with permanent AF in the setting of structural heart disease who underwent cardiac surgery and a RF Maze procedure as a concomitant procedure, the duration of AF, preoperative atrial fibrillation wave and preoperative LA size were predictive of recurrent AF, whereas left ventricular ejection fraction, left ventricular diameters and invasive hemodynamic parameters were not.
Journal ArticleDOI

The hybrid approach for the surgical treatment of lone atrial fibrillation: One-year results employing a monopolar radiofrequency source

TL;DR: One year results combining the percutaneous endocardial with the right thoracoscopic epicardial technique were, in the experience, not satisfactory, particularly in patients with LSP and persistent AF.
Journal ArticleDOI

The atrial fibrillation knowledge scale: Development, validation and results

TL;DR: The scale was able to differentiate between knowledge levels in patients with newly detected AF and after one year follow up and can be successfully used in an outpatient care setting as an important tool in the tailoring of patient education.
