Lead-I ECG for detecting atrial fibrillation in patients attending primary care with an irregular pulse using single-time point testing: A systematic review and economic evaluation

TL;DR: The use of single-time point lead-I ECG devices in primary care for the detection of AF in people with signs or symptoms of AF and an irregular pulse appears to be a cost effective use of NHS resources compared with MPP followed by a 12-lead ECG, given the assumptions used in the base case model.
Journal ArticleDOI

Atrial Fibrillation: Current Evidence and Management Strategies During the Perioperative Period.

TL;DR: Current evidence with respect to causes, risk factors, and outcomes of patients with AF are discussed, and current controversies in the perioperative setting are addressed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Left Atrial 4D Blood Flow Dynamics and Hemostasis following Electrical Cardioversion of Atrial Fibrillation.

TL;DR: Left atrial multidimensional blood flow was altered and blood stasis was elevated duringleft atrial stunning compared to the restored left atrial mechanical function and the coagulability of blood was also elevated during atrial stunned.

Detection of Atrial Fibrillation

TL;DR: In this chapter, the main design principles used in detection of atrial fibrillation are reviewed, either exploring rhythm information only or information on both rhythm and atrial wave morphology.
Journal ArticleDOI

The management of atrial fibrillation: An integrated team approach - insights of the 2016 European Society of Cardiology guidelines for the management of atrial fibrillation for nurses and allied health professionals.

TL;DR: Significant evidence from this particular guideline as well as clinical implications for nurses and allied health professionals in their daily work with atrial fibrillation patients and their caregivers are highlighted.

TL;DR: In this article, a randomized controlled trial of Aliskiren in the Prevention of Major Cardiovascular Events in Elderly people was presented. But the authors did not discuss the effect of the combination therapy in patients living with systolic hypertension.

Classification of subtype of acute ischemic stroke. Definitions for use in a multicenter clinical trial. TOAST. Trial of Org 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment

TL;DR: The TOAST stroke subtype classification system is easy to use and has good interobserver agreement and should allow investigators to report responses to treatment among important subgroups of patients with ischemic stroke.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spontaneous Initiation of Atrial Fibrillation by Ectopic Beats Originating in the Pulmonary Veins

TL;DR: The pulmonary veins are an important source of ectopic beats, initiating frequent paroxysms of atrial fibrillation and these foci respond to treatment with radio-frequency ablation.
