Journal ArticleDOI

Risk Assessment Using Risk Scores in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome.

TL;DR: As multiple risk scores have been developed over the last decades, this review summarizes the most relevant risk scores used in ACS patients.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cryoballoon ablation of atrial fibrillation: a practical and effective approach

TL;DR: Cryoballoon ablation appears to be the most promising practical and effective approach, and it is reviewed here by presenting all available relevant data from the literature as well as from the own experience in an attempt to apprise colleagues of the significant progress made over the last several years.
Journal ArticleDOI

Galectin-3 level predicts response to ablation and outcomes in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation and systolic heart failure

TL;DR: Galectin-3 levels independently predict outcomes in patients with reduced left ventricular systolic function addressed for ablation of persistent AF, and may be of interest in defining the therapeutic strategy in this population.
Journal ArticleDOI

Predicting Bleeding Events in Anticoagulated Patients With Atrial Fibrillation: A Comparison Between the HAS-BLED and GARFIELD-AF Bleeding Scores

TL;DR: The algorithm‐based GARFIELD‐AF bleeding score did not show any significant improvement in major and major/clinically relevant nonmajor prediction compared with the simple HAS‐BLED score, and for clinical usefulness in prediction of any bleeding, the HAS‐ BLED score showed a significant net benefit.
Journal ArticleDOI

Non‐vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) post‐percutaneous coronary intervention: a network meta‐analysis

TL;DR: Very low- to moderate-certainty evidence suggests that NOACs may be safer than vitamin K antagonists in terms of bleeding, while the results from the NMA were inconclusive between the different NoACs for all primary and secondary outcomes.

2013 ESH/ESC Guidelines for the management of arterial hypertension: The Task Force for the management of arterial hypertension of the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) and of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC).

Giuseppe Mancia, +89 more
TL;DR: In this article, a randomized controlled trial of Aliskiren in the Prevention of Major Cardiovascular Events in Elderly people was presented. But the authors did not discuss the effect of the combination therapy in patients living with systolic hypertension.
Journal ArticleDOI

Classification of subtype of acute ischemic stroke. Definitions for use in a multicenter clinical trial. TOAST. Trial of Org 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment

TL;DR: The TOAST stroke subtype classification system is easy to use and has good interobserver agreement and should allow investigators to report responses to treatment among important subgroups of patients with ischemic stroke.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spontaneous Initiation of Atrial Fibrillation by Ectopic Beats Originating in the Pulmonary Veins

TL;DR: The pulmonary veins are an important source of ectopic beats, initiating frequent paroxysms of atrial fibrillation and these foci respond to treatment with radio-frequency ablation.
