Ambient vibration recording on the Maddalena Bridge in Borgo a Mozzano (Italy): data analysis.

TL;DR: In this article, a vibration measurements campaign performed on the medieval Maddalena Bridge, also known as the "Devil's Bridge", in Borgo a Mozzano (Italy), one of the most fascinating in Italy, was described.
Journal ArticleDOI

Simulating pile load-settlement behavior from CPT data using intelligent computing

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a new procedure based on artificial neural networks (ANNs) for simulating the load-settlement behavior of pile foundations embedded in sand and mixed soils (subjected to axial loads).
Journal ArticleDOI

Seismic active earth pressure from the sloping c - ϕ soil backfills

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the analytical derivation of an explicit expression for the total seismic active earth pressure from the sloping c-ϕ soil backfills on the rigid retaining walls.

Hyperbolic P-Y Criterion for Cohesive Soils

TL;DR: In this paper, a hyperbolic equation for p-y curve is presented for cohesive soils and intermediate geomaterials based on 3-D FEM simulation results, a new empirical equation is presented to calculate the initial tangent to p-Y curve, which is verified by using the results of six full-scale lateral load tests on fully instrumented drilled shafts with diameters ranging from 0.76 m to 1.83 m.

Fault-controlled deformation and stress from pumping-induced groundwater flow

TL;DR: In this paper, four two-dimensional numerical model scenarios are developed to gain a better understanding of how earth fissures form under pumping induced stress, and the results reveal the importance of both the fault and vadose zones in fissure genesis.
