Evolution of pile shaft capacity over time in marine soils

TL;DR: In this paper, a series of pile load tests were conducted on medium-scale steel and concrete pile foundations driven into marine sensitive clay in Gloucester, Ontario, and the piles were tested instantly after driving to measure their initial bearing capacities.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ultimate bearing capacity of strip footing resting on soil bed strengthened by wraparound geosynthetic reinforcement technique

TL;DR: In this article, an analytical expression for estimating the ultimate bearing capacity of strip footing resting on soil bed reinforced with geosynthetic reinforcement having the wraparound ends is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Developments in excavation bracing systems

TL;DR: In this paper, a cast-in-drilled-hole concrete pile wall is described, which uses longitudinal reinforcement distributed non-uniformly around the perimeter of the pile section in order to more efficiently resist bending moment.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Study of the Deformation of Flexible Pipes Buried Under Model Reinforced Sand

TL;DR: In this paper, a series of model tests were conducted to investigate the effects of installing reinforcement layer above the pipe on the deformation characteristics of PVC pipes, and the results showed a significant increase in bearing capacities when reinforcements were introduced, while the reduced settlement caused by improved bearing capacities with buried reinforcements had little effect on resistance against pipe deflection.

Empirical pile design based on cone penetrometer data: an explanation for the reduction of unit base resistance between CPTs and piles

TL;DR: In this paper, the axial capacity of a single pile has to be predicted for the design of a piled foundation, which requires the knowledge of appropriate soil parameters and their influence on both base and shaft resistance of a pile.
