Guillain-Barré Syndrome outbreak associated with Zika virus infection in French Polynesia: a case-control study

TLDR
This is the first study providing evidence for Zika virus infection causing Guillain-Barré syndrome, and because Zika virus is spreading rapidly across the Americas, at risk countries need to prepare for adequate intensive care beds capacity to manage patients with Guillay-B Barré syndrome.

Pathogenesis and virulence of flavivirus infections.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used Dengue and Zika viruses to discuss what they have learned about the cellular and molecular determinants of the viral lifecycle and the accompanying immunopathology, while highlighting current knowledge gaps which need to be addressed in future studies.

Zika: the cost of neglect

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that the depth of the current Zika crisis is because of the extent of neglect for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) because of insufficient efforts have been directed towards their population control.

The Impact on Life questionnaire: validation for elective surgery prioritisation in New Zealand prioritisation criteria in orthopaedic surgery.

TL;DR: The results support the IoL as a valid and reliable method of assessing patient-rated quality of life and recommend its use in the Orthopaedic Clinical Priority Assessment Criteria score.

Experimental approach in research of Guillain–Barré syndrome: A range of pathogeneses mediated by molecular mimicry

TL;DR: For Guillain–Barré syndrome and other diseases associated with antecedent infections, clarification of pathogeneses is premature and warrants further research on molecular mimicry, as well as other autoimmune‐triggering mechanisms.

Zika virus outbreak on Yap Island, Federated States of Micronesia.

TL;DR: This outbreak of Zika virus illness in Micronesia represents transmission of Zikairus outside Africa and Asia and clinicians and public health officials should be aware of the risk of further expansion of Zika viruses transmission.

Zika Virus (I). Isolations and serological specificity

TL;DR: Cross neutralization tests indicate that Zika virus is not related to yellow fever, Hawaii dengue nor to the FA and GD VII strains of Theiler's mouse encephalomyelitis virus.

Genetic and Serologic Properties of Zika Virus Associated with an Epidemic, Yap State, Micronesia, 2007

TL;DR: The full coding region nucleic acid sequence and serologic properties of the virus were identified and the virus was identified as Crimean-Congo-Wales coronavirus.

[Guillain-Barré syndrome].

TL;DR: High-dose of intravenous immunoglobulin (0.4 g/kg daily for 5 days) and PE are equally effective in intermediate and severe forms and the choice between the two treatments depends on their respective contra-indications and local availability.

First report of autochthonous transmission of Zika virus in Brazil

TL;DR: Phylogenetic analysis suggests that the ZikV identified belongs to the Asian clade, the first report of ZIKV infection in Brazil, and the result was confirmed by DNA sequencing.
