Guillain-Barré Syndrome outbreak associated with Zika virus infection in French Polynesia: a case-control study

TLDR
This is the first study providing evidence for Zika virus infection causing Guillain-Barré syndrome, and because Zika virus is spreading rapidly across the Americas, at risk countries need to prepare for adequate intensive care beds capacity to manage patients with Guillay-B Barré syndrome.

Structural Basis for Neutralization and Protection by a Zika Virus-Specific Human Antibody.

TL;DR: The binding of ZK 2B10 to ZIKV has no detectable effect on viral attachment to target cells or on conformational changes of the E glycoprotein in the acidic environment, suggesting that ZK2B10 functions at steps between the formation of the fusion intermediate and membrane fusion.

Insecticide susceptibility status in Mexican populations of Stegomyia aegypti (= Aedes aegypti): a nationwide assessment.

TL;DR: High and widespread resistance to pyrethroids Types I and II and, to a lesser extent, to organophosphates was observed, and insecticide susceptibility among and within states was highly variable.

Emerging Causes of Arbovirus Encephalitis in North America: Powassan, Chikungunya, and Zika Viruses

TL;DR: This review will discuss the neuropathogenesis of these viruses, their transmission and geographic distribution, the spectrum of their neurologic manifestations, and the appropriate method of diagnosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Teratogen update: Zika virus and pregnancy.

TL;DR: Until a Zika vaccine is available, prevention efforts for pregnant women include avoidance of travel to areas with active Zika transmission, avoidance of mosquito bites for those living in or traveling to Areas with Zika Transmission, and protection against sexual transmission.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vaccine rollout strategies: The case for vaccinating essential workers early

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that age-based rollout strategies are less effective than prioritizing essential workers in vaccination campaigns against COVID-19, and that vaccinating essential workers sooner prevents over 200,000 infections, over 600 deaths, and produces a net monetary benefit of over $500M.

Zika virus outbreak on Yap Island, Federated States of Micronesia.

TL;DR: This outbreak of Zika virus illness in Micronesia represents transmission of Zikairus outside Africa and Asia and clinicians and public health officials should be aware of the risk of further expansion of Zika viruses transmission.

Zika Virus (I). Isolations and serological specificity

TL;DR: Cross neutralization tests indicate that Zika virus is not related to yellow fever, Hawaii dengue nor to the FA and GD VII strains of Theiler's mouse encephalomyelitis virus.

Genetic and Serologic Properties of Zika Virus Associated with an Epidemic, Yap State, Micronesia, 2007

TL;DR: The full coding region nucleic acid sequence and serologic properties of the virus were identified and the virus was identified as Crimean-Congo-Wales coronavirus.

[Guillain-Barré syndrome].

TL;DR: High-dose of intravenous immunoglobulin (0.4 g/kg daily for 5 days) and PE are equally effective in intermediate and severe forms and the choice between the two treatments depends on their respective contra-indications and local availability.

First report of autochthonous transmission of Zika virus in Brazil

TL;DR: Phylogenetic analysis suggests that the ZikV identified belongs to the Asian clade, the first report of ZIKV infection in Brazil, and the result was confirmed by DNA sequencing.
