Guillain-Barré Syndrome outbreak associated with Zika virus infection in French Polynesia: a case-control study

TLDR
This is the first study providing evidence for Zika virus infection causing Guillain-Barré syndrome, and because Zika virus is spreading rapidly across the Americas, at risk countries need to prepare for adequate intensive care beds capacity to manage patients with Guillay-B Barré syndrome.

The Envelope Residues E152/156/158 of Zika Virus Influence the Early Stages of Virus Infection in Human Cells.

TL;DR: The data highlight an important contribution of E-152/156/158 residues to the early steps of ZIKV infection in human cells, which are associated with an increased efficiency of viral membrane fusion inside infected cells due to conformational changes of E protein that enhance exposure of the fusion loop.

Spreading News: The Coverage Of Epidemics By American Newspapers And Its Effects On Audiences - A Crisis Communication Approach

Yotam Ophir
TL;DR: Analysis of coverage of epidemics in leading newspapers demonstrated substantial discrepancies between what CDC aims to communicate during epidemics and what the media actually disseminated to the public, including ways to improve cooperation with journalists and the use of alternative direct-channels for filling gaps in news media coverage.

Binding recognition of substrates in NS2B/NS3 serine protease of Zika virus revealed by molecular dynamics simulations.

TL;DR: In this article, classical molecular dynamics simulations were performed on the ZIKV NS2B/NS3 serine protease in complex with four peptide substrates to investigate the binding recognition and protein-substrate interactions.

Review: A neglected Flavivirus: an update on Zika virus in 2016 and the future direction of research.

TL;DR: A focussed review of the literature on ZIKV to date is provided, with perspectives on the direction of future research.

Zika virus outbreak on Yap Island, Federated States of Micronesia.

TL;DR: This outbreak of Zika virus illness in Micronesia represents transmission of Zikairus outside Africa and Asia and clinicians and public health officials should be aware of the risk of further expansion of Zika viruses transmission.

Zika Virus (I). Isolations and serological specificity

TL;DR: Cross neutralization tests indicate that Zika virus is not related to yellow fever, Hawaii dengue nor to the FA and GD VII strains of Theiler's mouse encephalomyelitis virus.

Genetic and Serologic Properties of Zika Virus Associated with an Epidemic, Yap State, Micronesia, 2007

TL;DR: The full coding region nucleic acid sequence and serologic properties of the virus were identified and the virus was identified as Crimean-Congo-Wales coronavirus.

[Guillain-Barré syndrome].

TL;DR: High-dose of intravenous immunoglobulin (0.4 g/kg daily for 5 days) and PE are equally effective in intermediate and severe forms and the choice between the two treatments depends on their respective contra-indications and local availability.

First report of autochthonous transmission of Zika virus in Brazil

TL;DR: Phylogenetic analysis suggests that the ZikV identified belongs to the Asian clade, the first report of ZIKV infection in Brazil, and the result was confirmed by DNA sequencing.
