Guillain-Barré Syndrome outbreak associated with Zika virus infection in French Polynesia: a case-control study

TLDR
This is the first study providing evidence for Zika virus infection causing Guillain-Barré syndrome, and because Zika virus is spreading rapidly across the Americas, at risk countries need to prepare for adequate intensive care beds capacity to manage patients with Guillay-B Barré syndrome.

Transient myocarditis associated with acute Zika virus infection.

TL;DR: The first travel-acquired Zika acute infection complicated with myocarditis imported in Mainland France is reported, and an electrocardiogram and a troponin are recommended if any cardiac symptoms are present in a patient with acute Zika infection.

Zika Virus: Implications for Public Health

TL;DR: This review summarizes the current understanding of ZIKV biology and epidemiology, as well as possible interventions to prevent contagion and transmission and defines such an arbovirus as something whose transmission should be prevented.

Suppression of Zika Virus Infection and Replication in Endothelial Cells and Astrocytes by PKA Inhibitor PKI 14-22.

TL;DR: It is shown that PKI effectively suppresses the replication of all ZIKV strains tested with minimal cytotoxicity to human endothelial cells and astrocytes, two key cell types for ZikV infection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Maternal-Fetal Transmission of Zika Virus: Routes and Signals for Infection

TL;DR: A more granular understanding of pathogenesis of ZikV infection during pregnancy is critical for developing therapeutics and vaccines and mounting a global public health response to limit ZIKV infections.

TL;DR: This outbreak of Zika virus illness in Micronesia represents transmission of Zikairus outside Africa and Asia and clinicians and public health officials should be aware of the risk of further expansion of Zika viruses transmission.

Zika Virus (I). Isolations and serological specificity

TL;DR: Cross neutralization tests indicate that Zika virus is not related to yellow fever, Hawaii dengue nor to the FA and GD VII strains of Theiler's mouse encephalomyelitis virus.

[Guillain-Barré syndrome].

TL;DR: High-dose of intravenous immunoglobulin (0.4 g/kg daily for 5 days) and PE are equally effective in intermediate and severe forms and the choice between the two treatments depends on their respective contra-indications and local availability.

First report of autochthonous transmission of Zika virus in Brazil

TL;DR: Phylogenetic analysis suggests that the ZikV identified belongs to the Asian clade, the first report of ZIKV infection in Brazil, and the result was confirmed by DNA sequencing.
