Recombinant Chimpanzee Adenovirus Vaccine AdC7-M/E Protects against Zika Virus Infection and Testis Damage

TL;DR: Impressively, AdC7-M/E exhibited exceptional performance as a ZIKV vaccine, as follows: protective efficacy by a single vaccination, rapid development of a robust humoral response, durable immune responses, robust T cell responses, and sterilizing immunity achieved by asingle vaccination.
Journal ArticleDOI

Presence of Zika Virus in Conjunctival Fluid

TL;DR: The detection of ZikV from conjunctival swab samples of laboratory-confirmed ZIKV cases is described, which indicates that the virus is linked to microcephaly and Guillain-Barré syndrome.

Advances in Diagnosis, Surveillance, and Monitoring of Zika Virus: An Update.

TL;DR: New insights gained from the recent advances can aid in the rapid and definitive detection of this virus and/or Zika fever and will aid the strategies to design and adopt effective prevention and control strategies to counter this viral pathogen of great public health concern.

Zika Vaccine Development: Current Status

TL;DR: It is clear that the world needs safe and effective vaccines to protect against Zika virus infection, but whether such vaccines can be developed through to licensure and public availability absent significant financial investment by countries, and other barriers discussed within this article, remains uncertain.

Zika Virus as an Emerging Global Pathogen: Neurological Complications of Zika Virus

TL;DR: It is suggested that acute ZIKV infection in pregnant women may result in acute infection of fetal tissue and brain tissue, causing microcephaly and potentially severe debilitation of the infant or even death of the fetus.

[Guillain-Barré syndrome].

TL;DR: High-dose of intravenous immunoglobulin (0.4 g/kg daily for 5 days) and PE are equally effective in intermediate and severe forms and the choice between the two treatments depends on their respective contra-indications and local availability.

First report of autochthonous transmission of Zika virus in Brazil

TL;DR: Phylogenetic analysis suggests that the ZikV identified belongs to the Asian clade, the first report of ZIKV infection in Brazil, and the result was confirmed by DNA sequencing.
