Guillain-Barré Syndrome outbreak associated with Zika virus infection in French Polynesia: a case-control study

TLDR
This is the first study providing evidence for Zika virus infection causing Guillain-Barré syndrome, and because Zika virus is spreading rapidly across the Americas, at risk countries need to prepare for adequate intensive care beds capacity to manage patients with Guillay-B Barré syndrome.

Zika virus-induction of the suppressor of cytokine signaling 1/3 contributes to the modulation of viral replication

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that infection with either the African or Asian lineage of ZikV leads to a modulated expression of suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS) genes encoding SOCS1 and SOCS3 in the following cell models, implying that SOCS upregulation following ZIKV infection modulates viral replication, possibly via the regulation of anti-viral innate immune responses.

Label-Free Electrochemical Biosensors for the Determination of Flaviviruses: Dengue, Zika, and Japanese Encephalitis.

TL;DR: This review critically compares and evaluates recent research progress in electrochemical biosensing of DENV, ZIKV, and JEV without labelling, with specific attention to comparison of detection strategies, electrode materials, and analytical characteristics.

Clinical and Epidemiological Characterization of Laboratory-Confirmed Autochthonous Cases of Zika Virus Disease in Mexico.

TL;DR: The ZIKV epidemic poses new challenges to public health systems and there are still many unanswered questions regarding mechanisms of transmission, complications, and impact of this virus.
Journal ArticleDOI

Zika virus circumvents host innate immunity by targeting the adaptor proteins MAVS and MITA.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that ZIKV strain SZ‐WIV01 down‐regulates the production of type I IFN and IFN‐stimulated genes along with the expression of mitochondrial antiviral signaling protein (MAVS) and mediator of IFN regulatory factor 3 activation (MITA).

Zika virus outbreak on Yap Island, Federated States of Micronesia.

TL;DR: This outbreak of Zika virus illness in Micronesia represents transmission of Zikairus outside Africa and Asia and clinicians and public health officials should be aware of the risk of further expansion of Zika viruses transmission.

Zika Virus (I). Isolations and serological specificity

TL;DR: Cross neutralization tests indicate that Zika virus is not related to yellow fever, Hawaii dengue nor to the FA and GD VII strains of Theiler's mouse encephalomyelitis virus.

Genetic and Serologic Properties of Zika Virus Associated with an Epidemic, Yap State, Micronesia, 2007

TL;DR: The full coding region nucleic acid sequence and serologic properties of the virus were identified and the virus was identified as Crimean-Congo-Wales coronavirus.

[Guillain-Barré syndrome].

TL;DR: High-dose of intravenous immunoglobulin (0.4 g/kg daily for 5 days) and PE are equally effective in intermediate and severe forms and the choice between the two treatments depends on their respective contra-indications and local availability.

First report of autochthonous transmission of Zika virus in Brazil

TL;DR: Phylogenetic analysis suggests that the ZikV identified belongs to the Asian clade, the first report of ZIKV infection in Brazil, and the result was confirmed by DNA sequencing.
