Guillain-Barré Syndrome outbreak associated with Zika virus infection in French Polynesia: a case-control study

TLDR
This is the first study providing evidence for Zika virus infection causing Guillain-Barré syndrome, and because Zika virus is spreading rapidly across the Americas, at risk countries need to prepare for adequate intensive care beds capacity to manage patients with Guillay-B Barré syndrome.

TL;DR: An exhaustive review and compare each of the classes of drugs discovered, the methods used for drug discovery, and their potential use in humans for the prevention or treatment of neurological complications of Zika virus infection.

Anticipating the Challenges of Zika Virus and the Incidence of Guillain-Barré Syndrome

TL;DR: A case-control study of patients who developed GBS during a Zika outbreak in French Polynesia provides evidence that Zika infection is the culprit and seeks to anticipate challenges that could face the health care system if the incidence of GBS were to sharply rise with the arrival of Zika.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dynamics of Zika Virus Model with Nonlinear Incidence and Optimal Control Strategies

TL;DR: The analysis based on the idea of optimal control theory made popular by Pontryagin’s principle is carried out, and the resulting optimality is quantitatively simulated to investigate the impact of the controls on the dynamics of Zika virus.

Cell surface α2,3-linked sialic acid facilitates Zika virus internalization

TL;DR: It is reported that cell surface sialic acid plays an important role in ZIKV infection and identification of α2,3-linked sialIC acid as an important host factor for ZikV internalization provides new insight into ZIKv infection and pathogenesis.

Expression of a Zika virus antigen in microalgae: Towards mucosal vaccine development.

TL;DR: The algae-made ZK vaccine represents a promising candidate to formulate attractive vaccines against ZIKV and elicited significant humoral responses at a higher magnitude to those induced upon subcutaneous immunization.

Zika virus outbreak on Yap Island, Federated States of Micronesia.

TL;DR: This outbreak of Zika virus illness in Micronesia represents transmission of Zikairus outside Africa and Asia and clinicians and public health officials should be aware of the risk of further expansion of Zika viruses transmission.

[Guillain-Barré syndrome].

TL;DR: High-dose of intravenous immunoglobulin (0.4 g/kg daily for 5 days) and PE are equally effective in intermediate and severe forms and the choice between the two treatments depends on their respective contra-indications and local availability.

First report of autochthonous transmission of Zika virus in Brazil

TL;DR: Phylogenetic analysis suggests that the ZikV identified belongs to the Asian clade, the first report of ZIKV infection in Brazil, and the result was confirmed by DNA sequencing.
