Guillain-Barré Syndrome outbreak associated with Zika virus infection in French Polynesia: a case-control study

TLDR
This is the first study providing evidence for Zika virus infection causing Guillain-Barré syndrome, and because Zika virus is spreading rapidly across the Americas, at risk countries need to prepare for adequate intensive care beds capacity to manage patients with Guillay-B Barré syndrome.

A chip-based potentiometric sensor for a Zika virus diagnostic using 3D surface molecular imprinting.

TL;DR: The high sensitivity and high selectivity demonstrated here proved that this lab-on-a-chip diagnostic has the potential to become a POC detection system for rapid and accurate screening of flaviviruses.

Impact of Zika Virus on adult human brain structure and functional organization.

TL;DR: To determine the impact of Zika virus (ZIKV) infection on brain structure and functional organization of severely affected adult patients with neurological complications that extend beyond Guillain–Barré Syndrome (GBS)‐like manifestations and include symptoms of the central nervous system (CNS).
Journal ArticleDOI

Reconstructing Mayaro virus circulation in French Guiana shows frequent spillovers.

TL;DR: There is strong evidence of an important sylvatic cycle for MAYV with most infections occurring near the natural reservoir in rural areas and in individuals more likely to go to the forest and with seroprevalences of up to 18% in some areas of French Guiana.

The Zika virus disease: An overview

TL;DR: The zika virus is responsible for the most recent fever outbreak in the Americas and the Pacific, starting in 2015, and this febrile illness increases the epidemiological and public health challenge existing in America, where the population is already fighting against dengue and chikungunya fever.
Journal ArticleDOI

An Imaging-Based Approach to Spinal Cord Infection.

TL;DR: This article aims to provide an overview of MRI findings for spinal cord infections with special focus on imaging patterns of infection that are primarily confined to the spinal cord, spinal meninges, and spinal nerve roots.

Zika virus outbreak on Yap Island, Federated States of Micronesia.

TL;DR: This outbreak of Zika virus illness in Micronesia represents transmission of Zikairus outside Africa and Asia and clinicians and public health officials should be aware of the risk of further expansion of Zika viruses transmission.

Zika Virus (I). Isolations and serological specificity

TL;DR: Cross neutralization tests indicate that Zika virus is not related to yellow fever, Hawaii dengue nor to the FA and GD VII strains of Theiler's mouse encephalomyelitis virus.

Genetic and Serologic Properties of Zika Virus Associated with an Epidemic, Yap State, Micronesia, 2007

TL;DR: The full coding region nucleic acid sequence and serologic properties of the virus were identified and the virus was identified as Crimean-Congo-Wales coronavirus.

[Guillain-Barré syndrome].

TL;DR: High-dose of intravenous immunoglobulin (0.4 g/kg daily for 5 days) and PE are equally effective in intermediate and severe forms and the choice between the two treatments depends on their respective contra-indications and local availability.

First report of autochthonous transmission of Zika virus in Brazil

TL;DR: Phylogenetic analysis suggests that the ZikV identified belongs to the Asian clade, the first report of ZIKV infection in Brazil, and the result was confirmed by DNA sequencing.
