Journal ArticleDOI
Serum phosphate levels modify the impact of parathyroid hormone levels on renal outcomes in kidney transplant recipients.
Yohei Doi,Takayuki Hamano,Takayuki Hamano,Naotsugu Ichimaru,Kodo Tomida,Yoshitsugu Obi,Naohiko Fujii,Satoshi Yamaguchi,Tatsufumi Oka,Yusuke Sakaguchi,Isao Matsui,Jun-ya Kaimori,Toyofumi Abe,Ryoichi Imamura,Shiro Takahara,Yoshiharu Tsubakihara,Norio Nonomura,Yoshitaka Isaka +17 more
TL;DR: Simultaneous evaluation of PTH and phosphate levels may provide additional information regarding renal allograft prognosis and predict renal outcomes in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs), with conflicting results.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differences among total and in vitro digestible phosphorus content of meat and milk products.
TL;DR: It is confirmed that cottage cheese and unenhanced meats are better choices than processed or hard cheeses, sausages, and cold cuts for chronic kidney disease patients, based on their lower P-to-protein ratios and sodium contents.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mineral abnormalities and long-term graft function in pediatric renal transplant recipients: a role for FGF-23?
Katherine Wesseling-Perry,Eileen W. Tsai,Robert B. Ettenger,Harald Jüppner,Isidro B. Salusky +4 more
TL;DR: Despite normal serum calcium and phosphorus levels in the majority of prevalent pediatric renal transplant recipients, abnormalities in PTH, 25(OH)vitamin D and FGF-23 are common and may be associated with increased risk for deterioration of kidney function and episodes of rejection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aluminium in parenteral nutrition: a systematic review
TL;DR: The aim of this review is to gather updated information about Al toxicity problem in parenteral nutrition solutions, regarding legislation, manifestations, diagnostics and treatment, patient population at risk and the actions to be taken to limit its accumulation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence and Predictors of Cardiovascular Calcium in Chronic Kidney Disease (from the Prospective Longitudinal RRI-CKD Study)
Santo Dellegrottaglie,Rajiv Saran,Brenda W. Gillespie,Xiaotong Zhang,Soyoung Chung,Fredric O. Finkelstein,Margaret Kiser,Javier Sanz,George Eisele,Alan L. Hinderliter,Martin K. Kuhlmann,Nathan W. Levin,Sanjay Rajagopalan +12 more
TL;DR: Prevalences of calcium deposition at the level of coronary arteries, thoracic aorta, aortic valve, and mitral valve were 69%, 46%, 39%, and 16%, respectively, and predialysis CKD is associated with a high prevalence of cardiovascular calcium.

Cinacalcet for Secondary Hyperparathyroidism in Patients Receiving Hemodialysis
Geoffrey A. Block,Kevin J. Martin,Angel L.M. de Francisco,Stewart A. Turner,Morrell M. Avram,Michael Suranyi,Gavril Hercz,John Cunningham,Ali K. Abu-Alfa,Piergiorgio Messa,Daniel W. Coyne,Francesco Locatelli,Raphael M. Cohen,Pieter Evenepoel,Sharon M. Moe,Albert Fournier,Johann Braun,Laura C. McCary,Valter J. Zani,Kurt Olson,Tilman B. Drüeke,William G. Goodman +21 more
TL;DR: Cinacalcet lowers parathyroid hormone levels and improves calcium-phosphorus homeostasis in patients receiving hemodialysis who have uncontrolled secondary hyperparathyroidism.
