Neuroimaging of Inflammation in Memory and Related Other Disorders (NIMROD) study protocol: a deep phenotyping cohort study of the role of brain inflammation in dementia, depression and other neurological illnesses

TLDR
This study will explore pathophysiological mechanisms using positron emission tomography (PET) which allows in vivo imaging of inflammation, amyloid and τ deposition, together with neuropsychological profiling, MRI and peripheral biomarker analysis, and determine the correlation between central inflammation and peripheral inflammation.

18F-AV-1451 positron emission tomography in Alzheimer's disease and progressive supranuclear palsy.

TL;DR: By comparing patients with Alzheimer’s disease and progressive supranuclear palsy, Passamonti et al. show that [18F]AV-1451 displays greater specificity for Alzheimer-related tau pathology than PSP-related pathology.

Myocardial Inflammation Predicts Remodeling and Neuroinflammation After Myocardial Infarction.

TL;DR: The brain is susceptible to acute MI and chronic heart failure, and immune activation may interconnect heart and brain dysfunction, a finding that provides a foundation for strategies to improve heart andbrain outcomes.

Neuroinflammation and Functional Connectivity in Alzheimer's Disease: Interactive Influences on Cognitive Performance

TL;DR: It is provided clear evidence that in vivo neuroinflammation in AD impairs large-scale network connectivity; and that the link between neuro inflammation and functional network connectivity is relevant to cognitive impairment.

Neuropathological stageing of Alzheimer-related changes.

Heiko Braak, +1 more
TL;DR: The investigation showed that recognition of the six stages required qualitative evaluation of only a few key preparations, permitting the differentiation of six stages.

A new depression scale designed to be sensitive to change.

TL;DR: The construction of a depression rating scale designed to be particularly sensitive to treatment effects is described, and its capacity to differentiate between responders and non-responders to antidepressant treatment was better than the HRS, indicating greater sensitivity to change.

Alpha-synuclein in Lewy bodies.

TL;DR: Strong staining of Lewy bodies from idiopathic Parkinson's disease with antibodies for α-synuclein, a presynaptic protein of unknown function which is mutated in some familial cases of the disease, indicates that the LewY bodies from these two diseases may have identical compositions.

The Neuropsychiatric Inventory: Comprehensive assessment of psychopathology in dementia

TL;DR: The NPI has the advantages of evaluating a wider range of psychopathology than existing instruments, soliciting information that may distinguish among different etiologies of dementia, differentiating between severity and frequency of behavioral changes, and minimizing administration time.
