Karolina Jurkiewicz,Mirosława Pawlyta,Dorota Zygadło,Dariusz Chrobak,Stanisław Duber,Roman Wrzalik,Alicja Ratuszna,Andrzej Burian +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and electron energy loss spectrograms were used to study the structure of glassy carbon at different stages of carbonization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pulmonary toxicity of well-dispersed multi-wall carbon nanotubes following inhalation and intratracheal instillation
Yasuo Morimoto,Masami Hirohashi,Akira Ogami,Takako Oyabu,Toshihiko Myojo,Motoi Todoroki,Makoto Yamamoto,Masayoshi Hashiba,Yohei Mizuguchi,Byeong Woo Lee,Etsushi Kuroda,Manabu Shimada,Wei-Ning Wang,Kazuhiro Yamamoto,Katsuhide Fujita,Shigehisa Endoh,Kunio Uchida,Norihiro Kobayashi,Kohei Mizuno,Masaharu Inada,Hiroaki Tao,Tetsuya Nakazato,Junko Nakanishi,Isamu Tanaka +23 more
TL;DR: It is shown that well-dispersed MWCNT can produce pulmonary lesions, including inflammation, and less pulmonary inflammation responses was observed, as compared to intratracheal instillation.

MoC–graphite composite as a Pt electrocatalyst support for highly active methanol oxidation and oxygen reduction reaction
TL;DR: In this paper, Molybdenum carbide (MoC or Mo2C) nanoparticles down to 2 nm in size on carbon (C-MoxC) were synthesized through an ion exchange process, and used as a Pt electrocatalyst support for both the methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR).
Journal ArticleDOI
Dry contact transfer printing of aligned carbon nanotube patterns and characterization of their optical properties for diameter distribution and alignment.
Cary L. Pint,Ya-Qiong Xu,Sharief Moghazy,Tonya K. Cherukuri,Noe T. Alvarez,Erik H. Haroz,Salma Mahzooni,Stephen K. Doorn,Junichiro Kono,Matteo Pasquali,Robert H. Hauge +10 more
TL;DR: A scalable and facile approach is demonstrated where as-grown patterns of well-aligned structures composed of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) synthesized via water-assisted chemical vapor deposition (CVD) can be transferred, or printed, to any host surface in a single dry, room-temperature step using the growth substrate as a stamp.

Raman Spectrum of Graphite
F. Tuinstra,J. L. Koenig +1 more
TL;DR: Raman spectra are reported from single crystals of graphite and other graphite materials as mentioned in this paper, and the Raman intensity of this band is inversely proportional to the crystallite size and is caused by a breakdown of the k-selection rule.

Band gap fluorescence from individual single-walled carbon nanotubes.
Michael J. O'Connell,Sergei M. Bachilo,Chad B. Huffman,Valerie C. Moore,Michael S. Strano,Erik H. Haroz,Kristy L. Rialon,Peter J. Boul,William H. Noon,Carter Kittrell,Jianpeng Ma,Jianpeng Ma,Robert H. Hauge,R. Bruce Weisman,Richard E. Smalley +14 more
TL;DR: At pH less than 5, the absorption and emission spectra of individual nanotubes show evidence of band gap–selective protonation of the side walls of the tube, which is readily reversed by treatment with base or ultraviolet light.
