Stimuli-responsive molecular brushes

TLDR
In this paper, the authors review the general aspects of molecular brushes and polymeric responsive systems and highlight the rational approaches to induce stimuli-responsiveness in molecular brush systems, which are unique for molecular brushes since these conformational changes can be restricted to a single molecule.

Poly(vinyl chloride): current status and future perspectives via reversible deactivation radical polymerization methods

TL;DR: In this paper, reversible deactivation radical polymerization (RDRP) methods are discussed from three major standpoints: degree of control over polymerization, limitations and potential applications on an industrial scale.

Self-assembly behavior of pH- and thermo-responsive hydrophilic ABCBA-type pentablock copolymers synthesized by consecutive RAFT polymerization

TL;DR: In this article, a multi-responsive hydrophilic ABCBA-type pentablock copolymer, consisting of poly(ethylene glycol), poly(N-isopropylacrylamide), and poly(2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate), was synthesized by consecutive reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization.

Synthesis and Characterization of Molecular Bottlebrushes Prepared by Iron-Based ATRP

TL;DR: In this paper, a grafting from a poly(2-bromoisobutyryloxy)ethyl methacrylate macroinitiator using iron-based atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) is described.

Intermolecular Interactions between Bottlebrush Polymers Boost the Protection of Surfaces against Frictional Wear

TL;DR: In this article, a library of polyzwiterrionic bottlebrush polymers of different architectures was synthesized to explore the effect of intermolecular interactions on their conformation at interfaces and their tribological properties.

Soft Elastomers via Introduction of Poly(butyl acrylate) “Diluent” to Poly(hydroxyethyl acrylate)-Based Gel Networks

TL;DR: In this article, a new strategy for the synthesis of stable and well-defined supersoft elastomers was proposed, where four-arm star-like polymers, poly(trimethylsilyloxyethyl acrylate), were synthesized and cross-linked to form a relatively uniform polymer gel network.

Living free-radical polymerization by reversible addition - Fragmentation chain transfer: The RAFT process

TL;DR: The authors proposed a reversible additive-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) method for living free-radical polymerization, which can be used with a wide range of monomers and reaction conditions and in each case it provides controlled molecular weight polymers with very narrow polydispersities.

Environment-sensitive hydrogels for drug delivery

TL;DR: Development of environmentally sensitive hydrogels with a wide array of desirable properties can be made is a formidable challenge, however, if the achievements of the past can be extrapolated into the future, it is highly likely that responsive hydrogelWith such properties can been made.
