Deep learning in neural networks
TL;DR: This historical survey compactly summarizes relevant work, much of it from the previous millennium, review deep supervised learning, unsupervised learning, reinforcement learning & evolutionary computation, and indirect search for short programs encoding deep and large networks.

Linear predictors for nonlinear dynamical systems: Koopman operator meets model predictive control
Milan Korda,Igor Mezic +1 more
TL;DR: This work extends the Koopman operator to controlled dynamical systems and applies the Extended Dynamic Mode Decomposition (EDMD) to compute a finite-dimensional approximation of the operator in such a way that this approximation has the form of a linearcontrolled dynamical system.
Journal ArticleDOI
SPICE: A Sparse Covariance-Based Estimation Method for Array Processing
Petre Stoica,Prabhu Babu,Jian Li +2 more
TL;DR: This paper presents a novel SParse Iterative Covariance-based Estimation approach, abbreviated as SPICE, to array processing, obtained by the minimization of a covariance matrix fitting criterion and is particularly useful in many- snapshot cases but can be used even in single-snapshot situations.
Journal ArticleDOI
A new kernel-based approach for linear system identification
TL;DR: A new kernel-based approach for linear system identification of stable systems that model the impulse response as the realization of a Gaussian process whose statistics include information not only on smoothness but also on BIBO-stability.

Zebedee: Design of a Spring-Mounted 3-D Range Sensor with Application to Mobile Mapping
TL;DR: The results demonstrate that the six-degree-of-freedom trajectory of a passive spring-mounted range sensor can be accurately estimated from laser range data and industrial-grade inertial measurements in real time and that a quality 3-D point cloud map can be generated concurrently using the same data.

Parameter consistency and quadratically constrained errors-in-variables least-squares identification
TL;DR: It is proved that solutions of the quadratically constrained least-squares estimator with a semidefinite constraint matrix are both unbiased and consistent in the sense that the averaged problem and limiting problem produce, respectively, unbiased and true (with probability 1) estimators.
Journal ArticleDOI
Memory-Augmented System Identification With Finite-Time Convergence
TL;DR: This letter presents a memory-augmented system identifier with finite-time convergence for continuous-time uncertain nonlinear systems where a memory of events with significant effect on the performance of the identifier is formed and reuse of historic data is leveraged in the identifier’s update law to guarantee that the identifier's error converges to zero in finite time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interaction Between Inertia, Viscosity, and Elasticity in Soft Robotic Actuator With Fluidic Network
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented analytic formulation and closed-form solutions of an elastic actuator with pressurized fluidic networks, while accounting for the effects of solid inertia and elasticity, as well as fluid viscosity.

Linear Modeling and Prediction in Diabetes Physiology
Marzia Cescon,Rolf Johansson +1 more
TL;DR: This chapter presents work on data-driven glucose metabolism modeling and short-term, that is, up to 120 min, blood-glucose prediction in Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) subjects.

Systems of logic and belief : an investigation of some conceptual art strategies
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the program and outcomes of practice-led research into how some of the strategies that were deployed by conceptual artists may or may not translate into present day practices and technologies.
