TLDR
Data support the role of NF-kappa B as a vital transcription factor for both specific and nonspecific immune responses, but do not indicate a developmental role for the factor.About:

Journal ArticleDOI
Induction of systemic autoimmunity by a xenobiotic requires endosomal TLR trafficking and signaling from the late endosome and endolysosome but not type I IFN
K. Michael Pollard,Gabriela M. Escalante,Hua Huang,Katarina M. Haraldsson,Per Hultman,Joseph M. Christy,Rahul D. Pawar,Jessica M. Mayeux,Rosana Gonzalez-Quintial,Roberto Baccala,Bruce Beutler,Argyrios N. Theofilopoulos,Dwight H. Kono +12 more
TL;DR: Findings identify HgIA as a novel type I IFN–independent model of systemic autoimmunity and implicate TLR-mediated NF-κB proinflammatory signaling from the late endocytic pathway compartments in autoantibody generation.

c-Rel phenocopies PKCθ but not Bcl-10 in regulating CD8+ T-cell activation versus tolerance†
Elissa K. Deenick,Elissa K. Deenick,Leslie Po,Laurence Chapatte,Laurence Chapatte,Kiichi Murakami,Kiichi Murakami,Yong-Chen Lu,Yong-Chen Lu,Alisha R. Elford,Alisha R. Elford,Samuel D. Saibil,Samuel D. Saibil,Jürgen Ruland,Steve Gerondakis,Tak W. Mak,Tak W. Mak,Pamela S. Ohashi +17 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that c‐Rel plays a critical role downstream of PKCθ in controlling CD8+ T‐cell anergy induction, and survival signals downstream of NF‐κB, are uncoupled from signals that mediate T‐ cell anergy.

Protein Cofactors Are Essential for High-Affinity DNA Binding by the Nuclear Factor κB RelA Subunit.
Maria Carmen Mulero,Shandy Shahabi,Myung Soo Ko,Jamie M. Schiffer,De-Bin Huang,Vivien Ya-Fan Wang,Rommie E. Amaro,Tom Huxford,Gourisankar Ghosh +8 more
TL;DR: This study provides a mechanism for nuclear cofactor proteins in NF-κB-dependent gene regulation by showing that purified recombinant nuclear factor κB (NF-κBs) RelA dimers bind specific κ B DNA sites with an affinity significantly lower than that of the same dimers from nuclear extracts of activated cells, suggesting that additional nuclear cofactors might facilitate DNA binding by the RelA Dimers.

Inducibility of κ immunoglobulin enhancer-binding protein NF-κB by a posttranslational mechanism
Ranjan Sen,David Baltimore +1 more
TL;DR: Phorbol-ester-mediated induction of NF-kappa B was observed in a T cell line and a nonlymphoid cell line, and is therefore not restricted to B-lymphoids cells, indicating that factors that control transcription of specific genes in specific cells may be activated by posttranslational modification of precursor factors present more widely.
Journal ArticleDOI
Activation of interleukin-6 gene expression through the NF-kappa B transcription factor.
TL;DR: NF-kappa B is an important mediator for activation of the IL-6 gene by a variety of IL- 6 inducers in both U-937 and HeLa cells and that alternative inducible enhancer elements contribute in a cell-specific manner to IL-8 gene induction.
