Using Self-Report Assessment Methods to Explore Facets of Mindfulness

Mindfulness facets were shown to be differentially correlated in expected ways with several other constructs and to have incremental validity in the prediction of psychological symptoms.
Abstract
The authors examine the facet structure of mindfulness using five recently developed mindfulness questionnaires. Two large samples of undergraduate students completed mindfulness questionnaires and measures of other constructs. Psychometric properties of the mindfulness questionnaires were examined, including internal consistency and convergent and discriminant relationships with other variables. Factor analyses of the combined pool of items from the mindfulness questionnaires suggested that collectively they contain five clear, interpretable facets of mindfulness. Hierarchical confirmatory factor analyses suggested that at least four of the identified factors are components of an overall mindfulness construct and that the factor structure of mindfulness may vary with meditation experience. Mindfulness facets were shown to be differentially correlated in expected ways with several other constructs and to have incremental validity in the prediction of psychological symptoms. Findings suggest that conceptualizing mindfulness as a multifaceted construct is helpful in understanding its components and its relationships with other variables.

Mindful Parenting Training in Child Psychiatric Settings: Heightened Parental Mindfulness Reduces Parents' and Children's Psychopathology.

TL;DR: Investigation of the effectiveness of mindful parenting training in a clinical setting on child and parental psychopathology and of mindfulness as a predictor of these outcomes concluded that parents’ increased mindful parenting, but not increased general mindfulness, is found to predict child psychopathology.

Mindsets for Sustainability: Exploring the Link Between Mindfulness and Sustainable Climate Adaptation

TL;DR: In this article, the authors explore if, and how individual mindfulness is correlated with climate adaptation at different scales, and find that individual mindfulness coincides with higher motivation to take climate adaptation actions or to support them, especially actions that are other-focused or support pro-environmental behaviour.

Comparing Self-Compassion, Mindfulness, and Psychological Inflexibility as Predictors of Psychological Health

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors performed regression analysis to determine the common and unique variance in psychological health predicted by these constructs and compared their relative predictive strength in a nonclinical sample of 147 undergraduate students at a Mid-Atlantic university.

Mindfulness, Compulsive Mobile Social Media Use, and Derived Stress: The Mediating Roles of Self-Esteem and Social Anxiety.

TL;DR: Mediation analysis supported the roles of self-esteem and social anxiety as mediators of the beneficial (lowering) effect of mindfulness on compulsive mobile SNS usage and confirmed that compulsiveMobile SNS use induces stress and mindfulness has also lowering effects on stress derived from such compulsive behavior, mediated by the former variables.

The Psychometric Properties of the Kentucky Inventory of Mindfulness Skills in Clinical Populations.

TL;DR: Results of confirmatory factor analysis offer good support for the hypothesized model of four correlated factors, whereas the model of one general underlying mindfulness factor as a second order construct was not confirmed.

Alternative Ways of Assessing Model Fit

TL;DR: In this paper, two types of error involved in fitting a model are considered, error of approximation and error of fit, where the first involves the fit of the model, and the second involves the model's shape.

Comparative fit indexes in structural models

TL;DR: A new coefficient is proposed to summarize the relative reduction in the noncentrality parameters of two nested models and two estimators of the coefficient yield new normed (CFI) and nonnormed (FI) fit indexes.

The Benefits of Being Present: Mindfulness and Its Role in Psychological Well-Being

TL;DR: Correlational, quasi-experimental, and laboratory studies show that the MAAS measures a unique quality of consciousness that is related to a variety of well-being constructs, that differentiates mindfulness practitioners from others, and that is associated with enhanced self-awareness.

Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder

TL;DR: The treatment of Borderline personality disorder (BPD) has been studied extensively in the literature as discussed by the authors, with a focus on the treatment of the behavioral patterns of patients with BPD.
