Mindfulness facets were shown to be differentially correlated in expected ways with several other constructs and to have incremental validity in the prediction of psychological symptoms.
Abstract
The authors examine the facet structure of mindfulness using five recently developed mindfulness questionnaires. Two large samples of undergraduate students completed mindfulness questionnaires and measures of other constructs. Psychometric properties of the mindfulness questionnaires were examined, including internal consistency and convergent and discriminant relationships with other variables. Factor analyses of the combined pool of items from the mindfulness questionnaires suggested that collectively they contain five clear, interpretable facets of mindfulness. Hierarchical confirmatory factor analyses suggested that at least four of the identified factors are components of an overall mindfulness construct and that the factor structure of mindfulness may vary with meditation experience. Mindfulness facets were shown to be differentially correlated in expected ways with several other constructs and to have incremental validity in the prediction of psychological symptoms. Findings suggest that conceptualizing mindfulness as a multifaceted construct is helpful in understanding its components and its relationships with other variables.

The Complementary Roles of Eudaimonia and Hedonia and How They Can Be Pursued in Practice

TL;DR: The complementary natures of hedonia and eudaimonia have been discussed for over 2,000 years by philosophers, including Aristippus in ancient Greece, and more recently by early psychologists and psychiatrists, such as Maslow, Jung, and Freud.

Getting Personal with Mindfulness: a Latent Profile Analysis of Mindfulness and Psychological Outcomes

TL;DR: This article used latent profile analysis (LPA) to distinguish four subgroups of college students based on five facets of mindfulness: high mindfulness, low mindfulness, judgmentally observing group, and non-judgmentally aware group.

Mindfulness and Parenting: A Correlational Study of Non-meditating Mothers of Preschool Children

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the relation between mindfulness and parenting variables in mothers that were not practicing meditation and found that mindfulness was more strongly and consistently related to more general aspects of mother’s mental health, while mindful parenting was more consistent related to aspects of stress specific to their role as a mother, parent-child interactions and perceptions about their child.

Self-criticism as a mediator in the relationship between unhealthy perfectionism and distress

TL;DR: In this paper, a cross-sectional online study with a predominantly student population (n = 381) investigated cognitive processes suggested to mediate the relationship between unhealthy perfectionism and distress.

Effectiveness of Mindfulness Meditation vs Headache Education for Adults With Migraine: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

TL;DR: Mindfulness-based stress reduction did not improve migraine frequency more than headache education, as both groups had similar decreases; however, MBSR improved disability, quality of life, self-efficacy, pain catastrophizing, depression scores, and depression scores.

Alternative Ways of Assessing Model Fit

TL;DR: In this paper, two types of error involved in fitting a model are considered, error of approximation and error of fit, where the first involves the fit of the model, and the second involves the model's shape.

Comparative fit indexes in structural models

TL;DR: A new coefficient is proposed to summarize the relative reduction in the noncentrality parameters of two nested models and two estimators of the coefficient yield new normed (CFI) and nonnormed (FI) fit indexes.

The Benefits of Being Present: Mindfulness and Its Role in Psychological Well-Being

TL;DR: Correlational, quasi-experimental, and laboratory studies show that the MAAS measures a unique quality of consciousness that is related to a variety of well-being constructs, that differentiates mindfulness practitioners from others, and that is associated with enhanced self-awareness.
