Using Self-Report Assessment Methods to Explore Facets of Mindfulness

Mindfulness facets were shown to be differentially correlated in expected ways with several other constructs and to have incremental validity in the prediction of psychological symptoms.
Abstract
The authors examine the facet structure of mindfulness using five recently developed mindfulness questionnaires. Two large samples of undergraduate students completed mindfulness questionnaires and measures of other constructs. Psychometric properties of the mindfulness questionnaires were examined, including internal consistency and convergent and discriminant relationships with other variables. Factor analyses of the combined pool of items from the mindfulness questionnaires suggested that collectively they contain five clear, interpretable facets of mindfulness. Hierarchical confirmatory factor analyses suggested that at least four of the identified factors are components of an overall mindfulness construct and that the factor structure of mindfulness may vary with meditation experience. Mindfulness facets were shown to be differentially correlated in expected ways with several other constructs and to have incremental validity in the prediction of psychological symptoms. Findings suggest that conceptualizing mindfulness as a multifaceted construct is helpful in understanding its components and its relationships with other variables.

Mindful Awareness, Mindsight, and Neural Integration

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors hypothesize that mindfulness promotes positive changes through a proposed "internal attunement" that catalyzes the fundamental process of integration, which leads to the flexible, adaptive, and coherent flow of energy and information in the brain, the mind, and relationships.

How understanding the neurobiology of complex post-traumatic stress disorder can inform clinical practice: a social cognitive and affective neuroscience approach

TL;DR: How understanding the neurobiology of complex post‐traumatic stress disorder can inform clinical practice is explored in a social cognitive and affective neuroscience approach.

Mindfulness training promotes upward spirals of positive affect and cognition: multilevel and autoregressive latent trajectory modeling analyses

TL;DR: Examination of positive emotion–cognition interactions among individuals in partial remission from depression who had been randomly assigned to treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy suggests that MBCT stimulates upward spirals by increasing positive affect and positive cognition.

Experiential Avoidance: An Examination of the Construct Validity of the AAQ-II and MEAQ

TL;DR: It is suggested the AAQ-II functions as a measure of neuroticism/negative affect, whereas the MEAQ functions as an indicator of experiential avoidance, and in order to improve the theory, research, and practice of third-wave behavior therapies, theMEAQ is recommended.

Dispositional mindfulness: A critical review of construct validation research.

TL;DR: A critical review of dispositional mindfulness is presented in this article, which examines historical context, operational definitions, measurement, and convergent and discriminant validity across personality domains, concluding that it is a multidimensional construct reflecting the focus and quality of attention, appears to exist independently from other forms of mindfulness, such as learned or cultivated mindfulness, and demonstrates associations with well-established personality traits.

Alternative Ways of Assessing Model Fit

TL;DR: In this paper, two types of error involved in fitting a model are considered, error of approximation and error of fit, where the first involves the fit of the model, and the second involves the model's shape.

Comparative fit indexes in structural models

TL;DR: A new coefficient is proposed to summarize the relative reduction in the noncentrality parameters of two nested models and two estimators of the coefficient yield new normed (CFI) and nonnormed (FI) fit indexes.

The Benefits of Being Present: Mindfulness and Its Role in Psychological Well-Being

TL;DR: Correlational, quasi-experimental, and laboratory studies show that the MAAS measures a unique quality of consciousness that is related to a variety of well-being constructs, that differentiates mindfulness practitioners from others, and that is associated with enhanced self-awareness.

Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder

TL;DR: The treatment of Borderline personality disorder (BPD) has been studied extensively in the literature as discussed by the authors, with a focus on the treatment of the behavioral patterns of patients with BPD.
