Using Self-Report Assessment Methods to Explore Facets of Mindfulness

Mindfulness facets were shown to be differentially correlated in expected ways with several other constructs and to have incremental validity in the prediction of psychological symptoms.
Abstract
The authors examine the facet structure of mindfulness using five recently developed mindfulness questionnaires. Two large samples of undergraduate students completed mindfulness questionnaires and measures of other constructs. Psychometric properties of the mindfulness questionnaires were examined, including internal consistency and convergent and discriminant relationships with other variables. Factor analyses of the combined pool of items from the mindfulness questionnaires suggested that collectively they contain five clear, interpretable facets of mindfulness. Hierarchical confirmatory factor analyses suggested that at least four of the identified factors are components of an overall mindfulness construct and that the factor structure of mindfulness may vary with meditation experience. Mindfulness facets were shown to be differentially correlated in expected ways with several other constructs and to have incremental validity in the prediction of psychological symptoms. Findings suggest that conceptualizing mindfulness as a multifaceted construct is helpful in understanding its components and its relationships with other variables.

Improving the Precision of the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire Using a Rasch Approach

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used Rasch analysis to assess the psychometric properties of the FFMQ using a sample of 296 participants, with the intention to improve the scale if necessary, and the best fit to the Rasch model was achieved after minor modifications that involved combining locally dependent items into subtests and removing two items (24 and 32) that critically affected the goodness-of-fit indices.

Attentional Effort of Beginning Mindfulness Training Is Offset With Practice Directed Toward Images of Natural Scenery

TL;DR: Mindfulness involves curious and detached attention to present experience as mentioned in this paper, and long-term mindfulness practice can improve attentional control capabilities, but practice sessions may initially deplete a self-awareness.

The moderating and mediating roles of self-acceptance and tolerance to others in the relationship between mindfulness and subjective well-being

TL;DR: The results showed that the positive link between mindfulness and subjective well-being was significantly mediated by self-acceptance only, and tolerance played a moderating role.

Does mindfulness attenuate thoughts emphasizing negativity, but not positivity?

TL;DR: The results suggest that mindfulness may attenuate thoughts that emphasize negativity but not those that emphasize positivity, which is differentially associated with positive or negative valence.

Zeroing In on Mindfulness Facets: Similarities, Validity, and Dimensionality across Three Independent Measures.

TL;DR: A way of understanding interrelationships between the available mindfulness scales is offered, so as to help practitioners and researchers make a more informed choice when conceptualising and operationalising mindfulness.

Alternative Ways of Assessing Model Fit

TL;DR: In this paper, two types of error involved in fitting a model are considered, error of approximation and error of fit, where the first involves the fit of the model, and the second involves the model's shape.

Comparative fit indexes in structural models

TL;DR: A new coefficient is proposed to summarize the relative reduction in the noncentrality parameters of two nested models and two estimators of the coefficient yield new normed (CFI) and nonnormed (FI) fit indexes.

The Benefits of Being Present: Mindfulness and Its Role in Psychological Well-Being

TL;DR: Correlational, quasi-experimental, and laboratory studies show that the MAAS measures a unique quality of consciousness that is related to a variety of well-being constructs, that differentiates mindfulness practitioners from others, and that is associated with enhanced self-awareness.

TL;DR: In this paper, Bollen et al. proposed a model fitting metric for Structural Equation Models, which is based on the Monte Carlo evaluation of Goodness-of-Fit measures.

Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder

TL;DR: The treatment of Borderline personality disorder (BPD) has been studied extensively in the literature as discussed by the authors, with a focus on the treatment of the behavioral patterns of patients with BPD.
