Shubha Vij,Heiner Kuhl,Inna S. Kuznetsova,Inna S. Kuznetsova,Aleksey Komissarov,Andrey A. Yurchenko,Peter van Heusden,Siddharth Singh,Natascha May Thevasagayam,Sai Rama Sridatta Prakki,Kathiresan Purushothaman,Jolly M. Jerry,Stephen J. O'Brien,Stephen J. O'Brien,Michael C. Schatz,Michael C. Schatz,Tamas Dalmay,Stephen Turner,Si Lok,Alan Christoffels,László Orbán,László Orbán,László Orbán +53 more
TL;DR: The quality of the Asian seabass genome assembly far exceeds that of any other fish species, and will serve as a new standard for fish genomics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-wide Evidence Reveals that African and Eurasian Golden Jackals Are Distinct Species
Klaus-Peter Koepfli,Klaus-Peter Koepfli,John P. Pollinger,Raquel Godinho,Raquel Godinho,Jacqueline Robinson,Amanda J. Lea,Sarah A. Hendricks,Rena M. Schweizer,Olaf Thalmann,Olaf Thalmann,Pedro Silva,Zhenxin Fan,Andrey A. Yurchenko,Pavel Dobrynin,Alexey I. Makunin,James A. Cahill,Beth Shapiro,Francisco Álvares,José Carlos Brito,Eli Geffen,Jennifer A. Leonard,Kristofer M. Helgen,Warren E. Johnson,Stephen J. O'Brien,Stephen J. O'Brien,Blaire Van Valkenburgh,Robert K. Wayne +27 more
TL;DR: Using morphologic data, a striking morphologic similarity between East African and Eurasian golden jackals is demonstrated, suggesting parallelism, which may have misled taxonomists and likely reflects uniquely intense interspecific competition in the East African carnivore guild.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genomic legacy of the African cheetah, Acinonyx jubatus.
Pavel Dobrynin,Shiping Liu,Gaik Tamazian,Zijun Xiong,Andrey A. Yurchenko,Ksenia Krasheninnikova,Sergey Kliver,Anne Schmidt-Küntzel,Klaus-Peter Koepfli,Klaus-Peter Koepfli,Warren E. Johnson,Lukas F. Wildt,Mark Diekhans,Tomas Marques-Bonet,Tomas Marques-Bonet,Laurie Marker,Jong Bhak,Jun Wang,Guojie Zhang,Stephen J. O'Brien,Stephen J. O'Brien +39 more
TL;DR: In this article, the genome sequence of wild-born African cheetahs reveals extreme genomic depletion in SNV incidence, SNV density, SNVs of coding genes, MHC class I and II genes, and mitochondrial DNA SNVs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of carnivore, omnivore, and herbivore mammalian genomes with a new leopard assembly
Soonok Kim,Yun Sung Cho,Yun Sung Cho,Hak-Min Kim,Oksung Chung,Hyunho Kim,Sungwoong Jho,Hong Seomun,Jeong-Ho Kim,Woo Young Bang,Changmu Kim,Junghwa An,Chang Hwan Bae,Youngjune Bhak,Sungwon Jeon,Hyejun Yoon,Yumi Kim,JeHoon Jun,Hye Jin Lee,Suan Cho,Olga Uphyrkina,Aleksey V. Weber,Jo Cook,Sangsoo Kim,Hang Lee,Andrea Manica,Ilbeum Lee,Stephen J. O'Brien,Stephen J. O'Brien,Jong Bhak,Joo-Hong Yeo +42 more
TL;DR: This study provides a large-scale family level comparative genomic analysis to address genomic changes associated with dietary specialization in carnivores, felids, and omnivores, indicating that carnivores are under strong selective pressure related to diet.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pangolin genomes and the evolution of mammalian scales and immunity
Siew Choo,Mike Rayko,Tze King Tan,Ranjeev Hari,Aleksey Komissarov,Wei Yee Wee,Andrey A. Yurchenko,Sergey Kliver,Gaik Tamazian,Agostinho Antunes,Richard K. Wilson,Wesley C. Warren,Klaus-Peter Koepfli,Patrick Minx,Ksenia Krasheninnikova,Antoinette Kotze,Desiré L. Dalton,Elaine Vermaak,Ian C. Paterson,Pavel Dobrynin,Frankie Thomas Sitam,Jeffrine J. Rovie-Ryan,Warren E. Johnson,Aini Mohamed Yusoff,Shu-Jin Luo,Kayal Vizi Karuppannan,Gang Fang,Deyou Zheng,Mark Gerstein,Leonard Lipovich,Stephen J. O'Brien,Guat Jah Wong +31 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that scale development was an innovation that provided protection against injuries or stress and reduced pangolin vulnerability to infection, and perhaps a new natural IFNE-deficient animal model for studying mammalian immunity.
