SARS-CoV-2 Spike triggers barrier dysfunction and vascular leak via integrins and TGF-β signaling
Scott B. Biering,Francielle Tramontini Gomes de Sousa,Laurentia V. Tjang,Felix Pahmeier,Chi Zhu,Richard Ruan,Sophie F. Blanc,Trishna S. Patel,Caroline M. Worthington,Dustin R. Glasner,Bryan Castillo-Rojas,Venice Servellita,Nicholas T. N. Lo,Marcus P. Wong,Colin M. Warnes,Daniel R. Sandoval,Thomas Mandel Clausen,Yale A. Santos,Douglas M. Fox,Victoria Ortega,Anders M. Näär,Ralph S. Baric,Sarah A. Stanley,Hector C. Aguilar,Jeffrey D. Esko,Charles Y. Chiu,John E. Pak,P. Robert Beatty,Eva Harris +28 more
TL;DR: In this article , the Spike (S) glycoprotein of SARS-CoV-2 and epithelial/endothelial cells were found to induce barrier dysfunction in vitro and vascular leak in vivo, independently of viral replication and the ACE2 receptor.
Journal ArticleDOI
ImmuneRegulation: a web-based tool for identifying human immune regulatory elements
Selim Kalayci,Myvizhi Esai Selvan,Irene Ramos,Chris Cotsapas,Eva Harris,Eun Young Kim,Ruth R. Montgomery,Gregory A. Poland,Bali Pulendran,John S. Tsang,Robert J. Klein,Zeynep H. Gümüş +11 more
TL;DR: A user-friendly open-access web portal that enables users to interactively explore immune regulatory elements that drive cell-type or cohort-specific gene expression levels, ImmuneRegulation significantly lowers the barriers between complex immune regulation data and researchers who want rapid, intuitive and high-quality access.
Journal ArticleDOI
Avian anti-NS1 IgY antibodies neutralize dengue virus infection and protect against lethal dengue virus challenge.
Kyle L O'Donnell,Diego A. Espinosa,Henry Puerta-Guardo,Scott B. Biering,Colin M. Warnes,James Schiltz,Matthew L. Nilles,Jeffrey S Li,Eva Harris,David S. Bradley +9 more
TL;DR: 2 anti-NS1 IgY antibodies were determined to be capable of neutralizing DENV infection in vitro and prophylactic treatment of mice with NS1-8 conferred significant protection against lethal DENV challenge.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gain-of-function mutations in a human calmodulin-like protein identify residues critical for calmodulin action in yeast.
TL;DR: Molecular modeling of these positions within the structure of a Ca2+-calmodulin · peptide complex indicates that E128 projects directly into the central cavity occupied by the bound peptide, which may contribute a contact that is vital for the interaction of Cmd1 with one or more of the targets that are essential for yeast cell growth.

TL;DR: CATCH (Compact Aggregation of Targets for Comprehensive Hybridization), a computational method to enhance nucleic acid capture for enrichment of diverse microbial taxa, is developed and used to recover genomes from the 2018 Lassa fever outbreak in Nigeria and to improve detection of viral infections in samples with unknown content.
