Tests of general relativity with GW150914

B. P. Abbott, +979 more
TL;DR: It is found that the final remnant's mass and spin, as determined from the low-frequency and high-frequency phases of the signal, are mutually consistent with the binary black-hole solution in general relativity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transition from fireball to Poynting-flux-dominated outflow in the three-episode GRB 160625B

Ignacio de Gregorio Monsalvo, +71 more
- 01 Jan 2018 -
TL;DR: In this paper, an extremely bright gamma-ray burst (GRB) 160625B was observed in both gamma and optical wavelengths, with three isolated episodes separated by long quiescent intervals, with the durations of each sub-burst being approximately 0.8, 35, and 212 seconds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Revisiting the long/soft-short/hard classification of gamma-ray bursts in the fermi era

TL;DR: In this paper, a statistical analysis of the temporal and spectral properties of the latest Fermi gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) was performed to revisit the classification of GRBs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Short GRBs: opening angles, local neutron star merger rate and off-axis events for GRB/GW association

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reported the detection of jet decline behaviors in GRB 150424A and GRB 160821B and found that the jet breaks in the afterglow lightcurves of short gamma-ray bursts (SGRBs), rarely detected so far, are crucial for estimating the half-opening angles of the ejecta ($\theta_{\rm j}$) and hence the neutron star merger rate.
