Global patient outcomes after elective surgery: Prospective cohort study in 27 low-, middle- and high-income countries

T. Ahmad, +2519 more
TL;DR: Despite lower baseline risk, outcomes were similar in low- and middle-income compared with high-income countries and should also address the need for safe perioperative care.
Journal ArticleDOI

Post-anaesthesia pulmonary complications after use of muscle relaxants (POPULAR): a multicentre, prospective observational study.

Eva Kirmeier, +865 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the use of neuromuscular blocking drugs in general anaesthesia is associated with an increased risk of postoperative pulmonary complications, and Anaesthetists must balance the potential benefits of neurmuscular blockade against the increasedrisk of postoperatively pulmonary complications.
Journal ArticleDOI

Individualised perioperative open-lung approach versus standard protective ventilation in abdominal surgery (iPROVE): a randomised controlled trial.

Carlos Ferrando, +152 more
TL;DR: In patients who have major abdominal surgery, the different perioperative open lung approaches tested in this study did not reduce the risk of postoperative complications when compared with standard lung-protective mechanical ventilation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Setting Individualized Positive End-Expiratory Pressure Level with a Positive End-Expiratory Pressure Decrement Trial After a Recruitment Maneuver Improves Oxygenation and Lung Mechanics During One-Lung Ventilation

TL;DR: During one-lung ventilation, the improvements in oxygenation and lung mechanics after an alveolar recruitment maneuver were better preserved by ventilation by using individualized PEEP with a PEEP decrement trial than with a standardized 5 cm·H2O of PEEP.
