TL;DR: Experts assembled to review, debate and summarize the challenges of IB validation and qualification produced 14 key recommendations for accelerating the clinical translation of IBs, which highlight the role of parallel (rather than sequential) tracks of technical validation, biological/clinical validation and assessment of cost-effectiveness.
Journal ArticleDOI
De novo cardiomyocytes from within the activated adult heart after injury
Nicola Smart,Sveva Bollini,Karina N. Dubé,Joaquim M. Vieira,Bin Zhou,Bin Zhou,Bin Zhou,Sean M. Davidson,Derek M. Yellon,Johannes Riegler,Anthony N. Price,Mark F. Lythgoe,William T. Pu,William T. Pu,Paul R. Riley +14 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated in mice that the adult heart contains a resident stem or progenitor cell population, which has the potential to contribute bona fide terminally differentiated cardiomyocytes after myocardial infarction and is shown to structurally and functionally integrate with resident muscle.
Journal ArticleDOI
In vivo imaging of glucose uptake and metabolism in tumors
Simon Walker-Samuel,Rajiv Ramasawmy,F. J. Torrealdea,F. J. Torrealdea,Marilena Rega,Vineeth Rajkumar,S. Peter Johnson,Simon Richardson,Miguel R. Gonçalves,Harold G. Parkes,Erik Årstad,David L. Thomas,R. Barbara Pedley,Mark F. Lythgoe,Xavier Golay +14 more
TL;DR: The results of this study suggest that glucoCEST has potential as a useful and cost-effective method for characterizing disease and assessing response to therapy in the clinic.
Journal ArticleDOI
Compartment models of the diffusion MR signal in brain white matter: a taxonomy and comparison.
Eleftheria Panagiotaki,Torben Schneider,Bernard Siow,Matthew Hall,Mark F. Lythgoe,Daniel C. Alexander +5 more
TL;DR: The results show that models that incorporate intra-axonal restriction generally explain the data better than those that do not, such as the DT or the biexponential models, however, three-compartment models which account for restriction parallel to the axons and incorporate pore size explain the measurements most accurately.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deep in vivo photoacoustic imaging of mammalian tissues using a tyrosinase-based genetic reporter
Amit P. Jathoul,Jan Laufer,Jan Laufer,Jan Laufer,Olumide Ogunlade,Bradley E. Treeby,Ben T. Cox,Edward Z. Zhang,Peter Johnson,Arnold Pizzey,Brian Philip,Teresa Marafioti,Mark F. Lythgoe,R. Barbara Pedley,Martin Pule,Paul C. Beard +15 more
TL;DR: Deep photoacoustic imaging of mammalian cells featuring genetically encoded contrast is reported, and the results are reported to be consistent with previous studies of this type of imaging.
