Journal ArticleDOI

The magnitude of global marine species diversity

Ward Appeltans, +125 more
- 04 Dec 2012 -
TL;DR: The first register of the marine species of the world is compiled and it is estimated that between one-third and two-thirds of marine species may be undescribed, and previous estimates of there being well over one million marine species appear highly unlikely.
Journal ArticleDOI

Global Diversity of Marine Isopods (Except Asellota and Crustacean Symbionts)

TL;DR: The documented numbers of undescribed species in recent collections and probable cryptic species suggest a large as yet undocumented fauna, potentially an order of magnitude greater than presently known.
Journal ArticleDOI

Global diversity of fish parasitic isopod crustaceans of the family Cymothoidae

TL;DR: Cymothoid isopods are obligate parasites of both marine and freshwater fishes and there are currently 40 recognised cymothoid genera worldwide as discussed by the authors, including Bopyridae, Cryptoniscidae, Cymothoids, Dajidae, Entoniscides, Gnathiidae and Tridentellidae.
Journal ArticleDOI

The genera Catoessa, Elthusa, Enispa, Ichthyoxenus, Idusa, Livoneca and Norileca n.gen. (Isopoda, Cymothoidae), crustacean parasites of marine fishes, with descriptions of eastern Australian species

TL;DR: The genus Livoneca is found to belong to the Anilocrinae, and is most closely related to the Nerocila group of genera, and the morphology of the brood pouch, pleopods, pleon and cephalon are rediagnosed.
