Meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies in five cohorts reveals common variants in RBFOX1, a regulator of tissue-specific splicing, associated with refractive error

Dwight Stambolian, +65 more
TL;DR: A new genome-wide significant locus on chromosome 16 is identified within the RBFOX1 gene which is a neuron-specific splicing factor regulating a wide range of alternative splicing events implicated in neuronal development and maturation, including transcription factors, other splicing factors and synaptic proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI

How many steps of progression of diabetic retinopathy are meaningful? The Wisconsin epidemiologic study of diabetic retinopathy.

TL;DR: It seems that 1 or more or 2 or more steps of progression of retinopathy over a 4-year period strongly predict the development of PDR over the next 6 years, which would result in the need for fewer subjects or shorter follow-up in some clinical trials.
Journal ArticleDOI

A whole-genome screen of a quantitative trait of age-related maculopathy in sibships from the Beaver Dam Eye Study1

TL;DR: This work genotyped a subset of subjects from the Beaver Dam (WI) Eye Study and performed a model-free genomewide linkage analysis for markers linked to a quantitative measure of age-related maculopathy, finding that a 14-cM region on chromosome 12, near D12S346, showed the strongest indication of linkage.
