The Medicago genome provides insight into the evolution of rhizobial symbioses

Nevin D. Young, +138 more
- 22 Dec 2011 -
TL;DR: The draft sequence of the M. truncatula genome sequence is described, a close relative of alfalfa (Medicago sativa), a widely cultivated crop with limited genomics tools and complex autotetraploid genetics, which provides significant opportunities to expand al falfa’s genomic toolbox.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparative analysis of detoxification enzymes in Acyrthosiphon pisum and Myzus persicae.

TL;DR: Herbivorous insects use detoxification enzymes, including cytochrome P450 monooxygenases, glutathione S‐transferases, and carboxy/cholinesterases, to metabolize otherwise deleterious plant secondary metabolites to feed on plants.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microcollinearity between autopolyploid sugarcane and diploid sorghum genomes

TL;DR: The comparable gene density between sugarcane BACs and corresponding sorghum sequences defied the notion that polyploidy species might have faster pace of gene loss due to the redundancy of multiple alleles at each locus, and can be used as a template for assembling much of the genic DNA of the autopolyploid Sugarcane genome.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cloning and characterization of small RNAs from Medicago truncatula reveals four novel legume-specific microRNA families

TL;DR: Findings indicate that M. truncatula and possibly other related legumes have complex mechanisms of gene regulation involving specific and common small RNAs operating post-transcriptionally.
