TL;DR: It is shown that pro-inflammatory M1-like macrophage, but not naive or M2 macrophages, accumulate in metabolic tissues, including visceral white adipose tissue and liver, during ageing and acute responses to inflammation, and that inflammatory cytokines secreted by senescent cells inducemacrophages to proliferate and express CD38.
Journal ArticleDOI
Single-cell analysis of early progenitor cells that build coronary arteries
Tianying Su,Geoff Stanley,Rahul Sinha,Gaetano D'Amato,Soumya Das,Siyeon Rhee,Andrew H. Chang,Aruna Poduri,Brian C. Raftrey,Thanh Theresa Dinh,Walter A. Roper,Walter A. Roper,Guang Li,Kelsey E. Quinn,Kathleen M. Caron,Sean M. Wu,Lucile Miquerol,Eugene C. Butcher,Eugene C. Butcher,Irving L. Weissman,Stephen R. Quake,Kristy Red-Horse +21 more
TL;DR: It is shown that vein cells of the developing heart undergo an early cell fate switch to create a pre-artery population that subsequently builds coronary arteries, which are built by vein-derived coronary arteries that can differentiate independently of blood flow upon the release of inhibition mediated by COUP-TF2 and cell cycle factors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Behavior of complex knots in single DNA molecules
TL;DR: The diffusion constants of knots with different complexities correlate with theoretical calculations of knot sizes and can be explained by a simple hydrodynamical model of "self-reptation" of the knot along a polymer.

Nucleic acid amplification using microfluidic devices
TL;DR: In this paper, a rotary microfluidic channel and a plurality of temperature regions at different locations along the rotary channel at which temperature is regulated are used for thermal cycling reactions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Single-cell transcriptomes and whole-brain projections of serotonin neurons in the mouse dorsal and median raphe nuclei.
Jing Ren,Alina Isakova,Drew Friedmann,Jiawei Zeng,Sophie M. Grutzner,Albert Pun,Grace Zhao,Sai Saroja Kolluru,Ruiyu Wang,Rui Lin,Pengcheng Li,Anan Li,Jennifer L. Raymond,Qingming Luo,Minmin Luo,Stephen R. Quake,Liqun Luo +16 more
TL;DR: Reconstruction of 50 individual DR serotonin neurons revealed diverse and segregated axonal projection patterns at the single-cell level, providing a molecular foundation of the heterogenous serotonin neuronal phenotypes.
