TL;DR: In this paper, a tractable adaptive min-max-min cost model is introduced to find a robust optimal expansion plan for new lines and storages withstanding the worst-case realization of the uncertain variables.
Abstract: This paper presents a new nondeterministic model for joint transmission and energy storage expansion planning along with optimal transmission switching in wind farm-integrated power systems. The proposed approach adopts the underlying idea of robust optimization to characterize the uncertainty sources pertaining to load demands and wind power productions through uncertainty sets. Accordingly, a tractable adaptive min–max–min cost model is introduced to find a robust optimal expansion plan for new lines and storages withstanding the worst-case realization of the uncertain variables. As the adaptive min–max–min cost model cannot be solved directly by the commercial off-the-shelf software packages, a decomposition algorithm using primal cutting planes is introduced to obtain the optimal solution. The proposed approach has been implemented on the IEEE 24-bus and the IEEE 73-bus test systems. Also, the robustness of optimal expansion plans under different circumstances is evaluated through a post-optimization procedure simulating different realizations of the uncertainty sources. Case studies justify the efficiency of the proposed RO-based model.

TL;DR: In this paper, a simulation of border irrigation systems using the SIRMOD (surface irrigation simulation, evaluation and design, developed by Utah State University, Logan, UT, USA) software package under open-and closed-end conditions is presented.
Abstract: In many regions in the world, more than 90% of areas equipped for irrigation apply surface methods. The major problem of the surface irrigation system is low performance due to poor design, operation, and maintenance. Use of the mathematical models for simulation of surface irrigation is necessary for reducing costs and decrease of time in analysis of indexes including application efficiency and distribution uniformity. This study aims to simulate border irrigation systems using the SIRMOD (surface irrigation simulation, evaluation and design, developed by Utah State University, Logan, UT, USA) software package under open- and closed-end conditions. For this purpose, 22 sets of data including four no-cultivated open-end borders, nine no-cultivated closed-end borders, and nine cultivated closed-end borders were used. The results showed that the models predicted open-end conditions better than closed-end for recession time. In addition, the hydrodynamic (HD) and the zero inertia (ZI) models estimated volume...

TL;DR: In this paper, a stochastic dynamic multi-objective model for integration of distributed generations in distribution networks is proposed, which optimises three objectives, namely technical constraint dissatisfaction, costs and environmental emissions.
Abstract: This study proposes a stochastic dynamic multi-objective model for integration of distributed generations in distribution networks. The proposed model optimises three objectives, namely technical constraint dissatisfaction, costs and environmental emissions and simultaneously determines the optimal location, size and timing of investment for both distributed generation (DG) units and network components. The uncertainties of electric load, electricity price and wind power generations are taken into account using scenario modelling. A scenario reduction technique is used to reduce the computational burden of the model. The Pareto optimal solutions of the problem are found using a binary particle swarm optimisation (PSO) algorithm and finally a fuzzy satisfying method is applied to select the optimal solution considering the desires of the planner. The effectiveness of the proposed model is demonstrated by applying it to a realistic 201-node distribution network.

TL;DR: The results demonstrate that the proposed fuzzy logic model provides more accurate, precise, sure results; so that, it can be taken into account as an intelligent risk assessment tool in different engineering problems.
Abstract: The problem of less and/or even lack of information and uncertainty in modeling and decision making plays a key role in many engineering problems; so that, it results in designers and engineers could not reach to sure solutions for the problems under consideration. In this paper, an application of the fuzzy logic for modeling the uncertainty involved in the problem of pipeline risk assessment is developed. For achieving the aim, relative risk score (RRS) methodology, one of the most popular techniques in pipeline risk assessment, is integrated with fuzzy logic. The proposed model is performed on fuzzy logic toolbox of MATLAB ® using Mamdani algorithm based on experts' knowledge. A typical case study is implemented and a comparison between the classical risk assessment approach and the proposed model is made. The results demonstrate that the proposed model provides more accurate, precise, sure results; so that, it can be taken into account as an intelligent risk assessment tool in different engineering problems.
