TL;DR: In this paper, a potential paraffin-degrading organism from oil wells of Gujarat was identified as Nocardia farcinica by 16S rRNA sequencing, which showed 100% degradation of heneicosane, 65.99 % degradation of docosane and 50.59 % degradation in 8 days.
Abstract: Microbial degradation of paraffin wax is an efficient method of removing wax deposition from pipelines and enhancing the flow rate of crude oil. The present study was carried out to isolate a potential paraffin-degrading organism from oil wells of Gujarat. Screening for bacteria-utilizing paraffin wax as the sole source of carbon was carried out using 2,6-dichlorophenol indophenol (DCPIP) dye as redox indicator. The selected organism was identified as Nocardia farcinica by 16S rRNA sequencing. Nocardia farcinica showed 100% degradation of heneicosane, 65.99% degradation of docosane, and 50.59% degradation of tricosane, the major components of paraffin wax, in 8 days, which was observed by gas chromatography. Eicosane (86%) and heneicosane (80%) were utilized more by the selected organism compared with octacosane (61%) and triacontane (58%) (DCPIP dye method). Gas chromatographic analysis revealed that the selected organism degraded 50% of paraffin crude oil in 10 days. To determine the ability of ...

TL;DR: The poorer HRQOL as assessed by the EQ-5D questionnaire among patients with CAD who had diabetes highlights the need of individualized treatment programs to improve outcomes in this most vulnerable population.
Abstract: Objective To assess the influence of diabetes on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and identify predictors of health status at 1-year follow-up after an acute coronary event. Methods A prospective cohort study in patients diagnosed with CAD at a tertiary care hospital from India. The EuroQol five-dimensional (EQ-5D) questionnaire was administered at 1-year follow-up. Multivariate stepwise liner regression was used to assess predictors of EQ visual analogue scale (VAS) and EQ-5D questionnaire utility scores. Respondents reporting problems on the EQ-5D questionnaire were stratified by the presence of diabetes at baseline for comparison. Results Of 960 (30% diabetic) patients with CAD enrolled in a main study cohort, 306 (76% males, 21% diabetic) responded to the HRQOL questionnaire at 1 year. Diabetic patients reported more difficulties/problems than did nondiabetic patients for EQ-5D questionnaire dimensions (mobility, 12.3% vs. 4.1%, P = 0.03; usual activities, 56.9% vs. 41.3%, P = 0.03; pain/discomfort, 50.8% vs. 17.8%, P 0.001; anxiety/depression, 33.8% vs. 14.9%, P 0.001), except for self-care (12.3% vs. 17.5%, P = 0.35). Mean ± SD EQ VAS and EQ-5D questionnaire utility scores were significantly lower for patients with CAD with diabetes versus those without diabetes (0.75 ± 0.15 vs. 0.83 ± 0.15, P = 0.0002, and 67.8 ± 8.8 vs. 73.6 ± 5.4, P = 0.0001, respectively). Presence of diabetes, use of beta-blockers on discharge, and treatment strategy significantly influenced the VAS score, whereas myocardial infarction as final diagnosis and the presence of prior CHF predicted worse EQ-5D questionnaire utility scores. Conclusions The poorer HRQOL as assessed by the EQ-5D questionnaire among patients with CAD who had diabetes highlights the need of individualized treatment programs to improve outcomes in this most vulnerable population.

TL;DR: In this article, a set of parametric and nonparametric tests are used to test equality of mean returns and standard deviations of the returns across the days-of-the-week.
Abstract: This paper investigates the presence of day-of-the-week effect, returns volatility and analyzes the annual returns of Bombay Stock Exchange. A set of parametric and nonparametric tests is used to test equality of mean returns and standard deviations of the returns across the-days-of-the-week. To supplement this analysis, graphical representation of the index annual percentage changes was explored. The results contradict the presence of the-day-of-the- week but indicate insignificant daily returns volatility in most of these Markets. The stock exchanges experienced enormous growth between 2001 and 2010. The result of the Levenes test value for Bombay Stock Exchange was 0.847 which concludes that the daily return seasonalities are not accompanied by any volatility seasonality and investing on low (high) return weekday does not necessarily mean that risk is also low or high and Index that has marginally significant Levenes statistic
