01 Jan 2021TL;DR: In this paper, an attempt is made to repair the effect of a crack in a statically loaded beam by attaching a piezoelectric patch to the beam as an actuator.
Abstract: In the present work, damage produced by a crack in a statically loaded beam is first evaluated. Subsequently, an attempt is made to repair the effect of the crack by attaching a piezoelectric patch to the beam as an actuator. Static analysis of PZT patched cracked beam along with rotational spring is performed using Ritz method. Subsequently, a finite element analysis is performed by using ABAQUS 6.12 to collate the analytical results. It is shown in the study that when PZT patch is subjected to external electric field, it yields a local reactive moment, which counters the crack effects. An equation is procured in order to compute the required actuation voltage for repairing of cracks. A parametric study is performed for various boundary conditions and loading patterns. It is distinctly noticed that the technique nullifies the discontinuity in slope curve which develops due to a crack.

01 Nov 2016TL;DR: Result from real-time measurement reveals good linearized, reliable and acceptable output, which may be a gateway to develop continuous measurement of level in industrial process using admittance method.
Abstract: Admittance type level transmitter is not popular in industries. Because it has significant cross sensitivity in temperature and ionic concentration of the liquid, thus producing unreliable results in the measurement. Theoretical study was already being made successfully to remove cross sensitivity using fuzzy based linearizing system in MATLAB platform. In this paper real-time linearization has been attempted using NI Labview and data acquisition system based on early experience. Result from real-time measurement reveals good linearized, reliable and acceptable output. Therefore this approach may be a gateway to develop continuous measurement of level in industrial process using admittance method.

TL;DR: A method has been proposed by which data rate has been reduced to 9.4875 Kbps using Rayleigh distribution and this proposed method provides acceptable probability of error and quantization noise i.e. SNR.
Abstract: In the last 40 years a number of coding techniques for analog sources (speech and images) has been employed. Subband coding, a kind of transform coding, splits analog speech signal into a number of different smaller frequency bands. By subbanding data rate has been reduced to 12.13804 Kbps [Sangita et al. Studies and implementation of subband coder and decoder of speech signal, Proceedings of national conference on electronics, communication and signal processing, 8–16, 1] on 64 Kbps telephone line. In this paper a method has been proposed by which data rate has been reduced to 9.4875 Kbps using Rayleigh distribution where data rate can be reduced to 9.6 Kbps [Crochiere et al. Digital coding of speech in subbands, The BELL System Technical Journal, 2]. Proposed method can save data rate which in turn saves bandwidth as well as spectrum. Moreover this proposed method provides acceptable probability of error and quantization noise i.e. SNR.
