TL;DR: In this article, the limits of solar radiation concentration in geometrical and fluorescent systems are described as a function of the index of refraction, angular collection range, as well as the frequency shift.

TL;DR: In this article, thin superconducting films of Y•Ba•Cu•O were prepared at 650°C using the pulsed laser deposition technique and they exhibited superconductivity with zero resistance at temperatures as high as 83 K.
Abstract: Thin superconducting films of Y‐Ba‐Cu‐O were prepared at 650 °C using the pulsed laser deposition technique. The as‐deposited films were fully superconducting at low temperature (30 K). After annealing in oxygen at 450 °C for 3 h, the films exhibited superconductivity with zero resistance at temperatures as high as 83 K. Film‐substrate interface reaction was minimal as revealed by Rutherford backscattering and Auger electron spectrometry. These films processed at such low temperatures are also found to have excellent planar surface morphology and high critical current density.

01 Jan 1988TL;DR: This paper illustrates how Quilt could be used by collaborators to produce a document by showing how views of a document tailored to individual collaborators or to other of the document's users are provided by Quilt.
Abstract: Quilt is a computer-based tool for collaborative document production. It provides annotation, messaging, computer conferencing, and notification facilities to support communication and information sharing among the collaborators on a document. Views of a document tailored to individual collaborators or to other of the document's users are provided by Quilt based on the user's position in a permission hierarchy that reflects an extensible set of social roles and communication types. This paper illustrates how Quilt could be used by collaborators to produce a document.

01 Oct 1994TL;DR: The problems the authors encountered while programming OSIRIS and optimizing network performance are identified, and how they either addressed them in the software, or had to modify the hardware.
Abstract: This paper describes our experiences, from a software perspective, with the OSIRIS network adaptor. It first identifies the problems we encountered while programming OSIRIS and optimizing network performance, and outlines how we either addressed them in the software, or had to modify the hardware. It then describes the opportunities provided by OSIRIS that we were able to exploit in the host operating system (OS); opportunities that suggested techniques for making the OS more effective in delivering network data to application programs. The most novel of these techniques, called application device channels, gives application programs running in user space direct access to the adaptor. The paper concludes with the lessons drawn from this work, which we believe will benefit the designers of future network adaptors.

TL;DR: In this article, a novel polarization and wavelength independent digital electro-optic switch in Ti:LiNbO3 was proposed and demonstrated by a steplike response to the applied voltage.
Abstract: We propose and demonstrate a novel polarization‐ and wavelength‐independent digital electro‐optic switch in Ti:LiNbO3. This four‐port integrated optics switch is characterized by a steplike response to the applied voltage. Switching is achieved through adiabatic eigenmode transformation in an asymmetric waveguide junction. We demonstrate switching of both polarization components at two wavelengths (1.32 and 1.52 μm) with a crosstalk of −20 dB.
