TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental investigation was performed to study the flow structure of a submerged water jet impinging normally on a smooth and flat surface using Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV).
Abstract: An experimental investigation was performed to study the flow structure of a submerged water jet impinging normally on a smooth and flat surface using Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). The jet issued from a 112 diameter, D, long pipe which ensured fully-developed turbulent flow conditions at the outlet. A semi-confined setting provided properly characterized flow boundary conditions. The Reynolds number based on jet mean exit velocity was Re = 16,000. The pipe-to-plate separation was varied between 1 and 8 pipe diameters. The current study focused on characterizing the flow structure close to the pipe outlet in the impingement and wall-jet regions. Statistically averaged mean and RMS velocities are reported for a 6D wide and 1D high, near-plate, rectangular region. A total of 155 × 24 or 3720 vectors were obtained, each representing the spatial average over a 0.0394D × 0.0394D area.Copyright © 2009 by ASME

TL;DR: A brief history of personality assessment in police and public safety psychology as it developed from 1916 to 2008 is provided in this paper. But the application of psychological services and research to law enforcement settings (known as “police psychology”) evolved from being practically nonexistent to almost universal in a relatively short period of time (Scrivner 2006).
Abstract: Since the 1960s, the application of psychological services and research to law enforcement settings (known as “police psychology”) evolved from being practically nonexistent to almost universal in a relatively short period of time (Scrivner 2006). Currently, psychologists provide a variety of services to law enforcement agencies, including performing evaluations for pre-employment selection, “fitness-for-duty” evaluations (FFDE), and counseling/treatment for psychologically troubled officers and first responders. The extensive use of personality assessment instruments in police psychology is not surprising given the fact psychologists have traditionally concerned themselves with issues of psychological measurement and test construction. In the contemporary practice of police psychology, assessment using personality measures is essential, being utilized in all of the abovementioned evaluations, in addition to other occasional applications (Weiss et al. 2008). This article provides a brief history of personality assessment in police and public safety psychology as it developed from 1916 to 2008.

TL;DR: In this paper, a food supply chain network model under oligopolistic competition and perishability, with a focus on fresh produce, is presented, which handles food spoilage through arc multipliers, with the inclusion of discarding costs associated with disposal.
Abstract: In this chapter, we construct a food supply chain network model under oligopolistic competition and perishability, with a focus on fresh produce. The model handles food spoilage through arc multipliers, with the inclusion of the discarding costs associated with disposal. We allow for product differentiation due to such relevant issues as product freshness and food safety and include alternative technologies associated with various supply chain activities. A case study, in which we analyze different scenarios prior to, during, and post a foodborne disease outbreak, based on the cantaloupe market, illustrates the modeling and computational framework.

TL;DR: The authors examined how social anxiety is related to closeness in real-time social interactions and found that socially anxious people report less closeness to others, while socially confident people report more closeness with others.
Abstract: Socially anxious people report less closeness to others, but very little research has examined how social anxiety is related to closeness in real-time social interactions. The present study investi...
