The revised guidelines for the management of thyroid disease in pregnancy include recommendations regarding the interpretation of thyroid function tests in pregnancy, iodine nutrition, thyroid autoantibodies and pregnancy complications, thyroid considerations in infertile women, hypothyroidism in pregnancy and thyrotoxicosis in pregnancy.

Effect of inadequate iodine status in UK pregnant women on cognitive outcomes in their children: results from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC)

Thyrotoxicosis and heart failure that complicate pregnancy

TL;DR: Normal pregnancy mimics and amplifies some of the hyperdynamic cardiovascular changes that are caused by thyrotoxicosis, although in some women, however, common pregnancy complications that include hemorrhage with associated anemia, sepsis, and severe preeclampsia-eClampsia will precipitate heart failure.

Thyroid size and thyroid function during pregnancy: an analysis.

TL;DR: It is revealed that thyroid size increases in pregnancy in areas of iodine deficiency but not in those with sufficient iodine, and that, during pregnancy, thyroid volume and thyroid function adapt in a physiological way to meet the increased demands for iodine and energy.

Microsomal antibodies during gestation in relation to postpartum thyroid dysfunction and depression

TL;DR: Women with elevated microsomal antibody titres during gestation are particularly at risk for postpartum thyroid dysfunction, but only have a slightly increased risk forPostpartum depression.

Screening for hypothyroidism in infertile women.

TL;DR: The prevalence of elevated TSH in 704 women with at least one year of infertility was 2.3% and the majority of women diagnosed with hypothyroidism had ovulatory dysfunction, and successful pregnancies resulted in 7 of 11 (64%) of patients.

Mild iodine deficiency in pregnancy in Europe and its consequences for cognitive and psychomotor development of children: A review

TL;DR: It is difficult to establish a direct link between maternal iodine deficiency and maternal hypothyroxinaemia, but some studies suggest that iodine supplementation from the first trimester until the end of pregnancy may decrease the risk of cognitive and psychomotor developmental delay in the offspring.
