TLDR
It is shown that gross emissions from forest fires are more than half as great as those from deforestation during drought years, which means that carbon emission inventories intended for accounting and developing policies need to take account of substantial forest fire emissions not associated to the deforestation process.Citations

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors synthesize the understanding of ENSO teleconnections to South America, focusing on the mechanisms and diversity of resulting Teleconnections, and outline the impacts of the El Nino-Southern Oscillation on South America. But, while the understanding has improved, with implications for prediction and projection, uncertainty remains in regards to the robustness of the impacts, interbasin climate interactions and interplay with greenhouse warming.

Crispim,Raiane A.L. Neves +22 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated Amazonia's carbon budget and the main drivers responsible for its change into a carbon source, and found that total carbon emissions are greater in eastern Amazonia than in the western part, mostly as a result of spatial differences in carbon-monoxide-derived fire emissions.

Clarifying Amazonia's burning crisis.
TL;DR: The different types of fire in the Amazon, their different drivers and the positive feedbacks that can lead to more fires in the region are clarified and the solutions needed to reduce the prevalence of uncontrolled or illegal fire are examined.

A Pacific interdecadal climate oscillation with impacts on salmon production
TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify a robust, recurring pattern of ocean-atmosphere climate variability centered over the midlatitude North Pacific basin over the past century, the amplitude of this climate pattern has varied irregularly at interannual-to-interdecadal timescales.
