Hybrid MIMO Architectures for Millimeter Wave Communications: Phase Shifters or Switches?
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed hybrid architectures based on switching networks to reduce the complexity and the power consumption of the structures based on phase shifters and defined a power consumption model and used it to evaluate the energy efficiency of both structures.

Hybrid MIMO Architectures for Millimeter Wave Communications: Phase Shifters or Switches?
TL;DR: Numerical results show that architectures based on switches obtain equal or better channel estimation performance to that obtained using phase shifters, while reducing hardware complexity and power consumption, and all the hybrid architectures provide similar spectral efficiencies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Study and prototyping of practically large-scale mmWave antenna systems for 5G cellular devices
TL;DR: The challenges, benefits and approaches associated with realizing largescale antenna arrays at mmWave frequency bands for future 5G cellular devices are discussed, and a first-of- a-kind cellular phone prototype equipped with mmWave 5G antenna arrays consisting of a total of 32 low-profile antenna elements are developed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antenna Subset Modulation for Secure Millimeter-Wave Wireless Communication
TL;DR: This paper exploits the potential of large antenna arrays at millimeter-wave (mm-Wave) frequencies to develop a low-complexity directional modulation technique, Antenna Subset Modulation (ASM), for point-to-point secure wireless communication.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Channel estimation and hybrid combining for mmWave: Phase shifters or switches?
TL;DR: A different hybrid architecture is proposed, which simplifies the hardware at the receiver by replacing the phase shifters with switches and a new approach for compressed sensing based channel estimation for the hybrid architectures is presented.

Radiation detection and measurement
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a detailed analysis of the effect of different types of detectors on the performance of the detection of neutrons and their effect on the detection efficiency and error prediction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fundamental superstrate (cover) effects on printed circuit antennas
TL;DR: In this article, the fundamental effects of superstrate (cover) materials on printed circuits antennas are investigated and a general criterion is given for choosing a superstrate to optimize efficiency for the important case of nonmagnetic layers with the antenna at the interface.

TL;DR: A 0.13-mum SiGe BiCMOS double-conversion superheterodyne receiver and transmitter chipset for data communications in the 60-GHz band is presented.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
A silicon 60GHz receiver and transmitter chipset for broadband communications
TL;DR: An integrated SiGe superheterodyne RX/TX pair capable of Gb/s data rates in the 60GHz band is described and achieves 10% PAE in the final stage.

Invention of the integrated circuit
TL;DR: The design of two-dimensicn circuit assemblies, a novel design in which ceramic wafers with one to four passive components per wafer were stacked and interconnected with vertical riser wires, was developed.
