Journal ArticleDOI

Forecasting short-term peak concentrations from a network of air quality instruments measuring PM2.5 using boosted gradient machine models.

TL;DR: Machine learning algorithms are used successfully in this paper to forecast reliably upcoming short-term high concentration episodes, or peaks (<60-min) of fine particulate air pollution (PM2.5) 1 h in advance, with 80-90% accurate forecasting of whether a peak would occur within the next 60-min period.
Journal ArticleDOI

Association of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and metallic species in a tropical urban atmosphere – Delhi, India

TL;DR: In this article, a tropical urban environment (Delhi, India) during December 2008-November 2009 was characterized with respect to 16 US EPA priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and 8 major and trace metals (Fe, Mn, Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn and Cr).
Journal ArticleDOI

Metrological Assessment of a Portable Analyzer for Monitoring the Particle Size Distribution of Ultrafine Particles

TL;DR: Results show that the Nanoscan SMPS is able to properly measure the particle size distribution for each type of aerosol investigated, but it overestimates the total particle number concentration in the case of fresh aerosols.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impacts on ambient air quality due to flaring activities in one of Oman's oilfields.

TL;DR: It was concluded on the basis of current study that the sensitive individuals in the workplace of the Al-Noor could experience adverse health effects due to short-term exposure of SO2.
